D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By SiGO
#72409 Hi All,

I was going to keep my engine stock, its the somewhat rare and unknown D15B4 twin carb version and has done just over 230,000kms.

Recently a D16Y4 has come up for an absolute steal having only done 110,000kms and including most accessories.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows exactly what I'll need as far as ECU/Wiring, fuel lines, etc etc?

Is it even possible to go from Carb to FI and what are the fundamental differences in fuel delivery from the tank to the engine, if any?

Also is this going to be a worthwhile swap? the D16Y4 appears to be Non vtec, this isnt really of a huge concern for me, just hoping for a bit more get up and go.

Its also an auto trans and i plan to leave it this way. Thanks

If you have some good direct links to places with this info I'd really appreciate it.

I've checked the usual haunts, HT etc etc but havent come up with anything overly specific.

#72441 well in any carb to f/i swap you will need to upgrade the fuel delivery system now i cant really remember if you need the pump or an upgraded one but i would just go to a junk yard and pull off the pumps from a already f/i civic

because the difference between carb and f/i is the carb relies on vaccums and whatnot to pull the gas into the carb while the fuel injection system pulls the gass using pumps and stuff like that (I think its something along the lines of that)

Now for the ecu id just use a D15 non vtec ecu unless your car is obd0 then id try locating a crx or civic that had a mpfi in it and use that ecu .....

I really have not heard of the D16y4 because in the states that motor never arrived stock in any of our cars but if its f/i you should feel a bit more power under your foot when you hit the pedal because there will be a definate power difference
