#211237 hey guys i am going to get my hands on a d16 and the ECU around November and i want to build it all motor but still be able to run it on pump gas, what would you guys recommend buying(parts wise) to replace so i can get ready for my d16 build?

my car has a d15 in it will i be able to re use parts from it at all like the transmition?

this is a budget build so im trying to buy parts early to stock pile them and have them ready to replace anything that needs to be replaced in the engine.

thanks for reading. And thank you in advance for your answers.

P.S. this is engine is for a DD and an occasional trip to the track :D

#211247 you can use your tranny for sure....i would replace the clutch and all that while you have it out if you havent already...and just get some basic bolt ons ....header,,, intake mani fold---skunk2 or a y8 mani,,,grab some new wires and plugs,,,,replace the timing belt and water pump if needed,,,,and get a nice intake and youll be set for a budg build,,,,if your looking to go big then get a cam cam gear and upgrade your vavle train,,,,theres a bunch of things you can do!!!! :thumb:

#211252 thanx, i am thinking about getting some DC headers, and a weapon R (secret weapon) intake. Does anyone know how that performs or anyone have it in there car?

i replaced the water pump on my d15 not too long ago, can i use the same pump for the d16? and timing belt has been ordered along with some engine mount bushings :thumb:

i am thinking of getting a chipped ecu with hondata's s300 eventually.

do you guys recommend replacing the axels kus one of my boots ripped or should i just get the new boot and try and install the old axles? will they be able to keep up with the engine? :?

#211256 dcs are good idk about the wr tho??? im pretty sure you can use the water pump but you want to use the timing belt from the z6.....also the axles will hold the power you are trying to make for your build.....just get the boot or just get the new axle you need :thumb: s300 is sweet!!!

someone wrote on the you know you drive an eg thread and said when you hear s300 you dont think of lexus!!!!

#211265 im not sure but i think the d15b7 pistons can be used and they will raise ur cr and yes u can reuse the water pump..... i say raise the compression and tune it with ur chipped ecu :thumb:

yup the timing belt was oreder for the z6 :thumb:

thanx guys this helps alot, but im completely new to the whole tuning scene so the s300 i might just add last to tell truth im kind of scared to mess with my ECU tune

#211391 sounds like you got a good idea of what ur gonna do
the d15b7 pistons dont fit height wise so dont do that haha
if you wanna get a sweet litle motor that rips heres what you should do and itspretty cheap too
shave the head .010 to .020 anywhere in that range will help raise your compression enough to make it fun
basic bolt ons header intake full exhaust tune with the s300
get a nice stage 2 clutch and a lightweight flywheel
should be a good dd motor and fun on the track and fun in the twisties :thumb:

#211421 A couple notes...

The D15b7 water pump doesn't fit on the D16.

And your tranny WILL work, but while you have everything apart, it would be worth it to upgrade to an ex/si tranny. They have shorter gearing = faster acceleration :thumb:

#211432 I just did a budget build on a z6, I went with a .020 bore on the block with A1 pistons that will raise your compression, polished the crank an jurnals with all new bearings an seals. Also did a y8 mani, arp head bolts, new axles/ cus needed badly, new head gasket, aftermarket header, short ram intake, new belts, Then after i break the motor in i plan to get the supertech retainers, blox double valve springs with a crowers 2.2 street cam. Idk what i will be tuning with yet but will decide that when i get started on rebuilding my head. I hope that helped you out a lil.

yeah it did :thumb: im trying to get my hands on the parts before i get the engine, but maybe a silly question but boring an engine, wat does it do exactly? sorry if it a silly question.

thanks everyone all this feedback is helping alot!!! :D

#211441 boring is a good thing to do on a higher mileage block where the cylinder walls may be slightly out of round or have deep scratches.

Boring is done before honing.

Boring a D16 .020 will mean that you will need to use 75.5mm pistons instead of 75mm :thumb:

orale!!! i think i have to read up on this! :D

#211445 boring means to make the diameter of the cylinders bigger
basically making your cylinders wider and there for upping your displacment
kinda hard to explain over text with out showing you
but displacment is measured by bore times stroke times number of cylinders
so if you up our bore then you will have a bigger engine in basic terms

#211598 No matter which way you go you will be dropping a good amount of money into your build. I suggest by saving money pulling your motor apart your self with the help from civic-eg if nedded :thumb: Everyone helped me a lot. Just keep everthing organized. Good luck on what you decide.

#211646 yeah im taking the d16 apart and when i get it and just rebuilding it from top to bottom and will be running on my current d15 motor :thumb:

and to all of the civic-eg forum i am very grateful that you guys take the time to reply and help a noob out
