So I recently had to swap my throttle body out due to a bad TPS and for some reason after I installed the new throttle body the car won't spark anymore. I've got a '92 EX-V with a D16Z6 boosted to 8psi. I've done a little research and apparently this is something to do with the coil and ICM.

I had a Y8 distributor lying around that I knew was good, so I rebuilt mine with the Y8 parts (Igniter, ICM and coil) but for some reason the car still refuses to spark. It cranks no problem, and the fuel pump primes without any problems. What am I missing?

My thoughts:
Main relay - But probably not because the fuel pump is still priming
ECU
Grounds - Which I've already checked and all seems to be good.

Timing - make sure you are TDC
Spark wires can go bad.
Main Relay can go bad as well.

What I mean was there's no spark from the actual spark plugs. If it was timing related, it would be sparking, just not starting.

And yeah I'm gonna look over the wires and stuff too.

Well, with the situation I had, my TDC wasn't correct 20 degree off and there were no spark at all. Gas was flooding the cylinder and it just wasn't turning over.

But let us know what you find out

Are you sure the y8 parts can successfully be used inside the d16z6 distributor? You're mixing OBD2 parts in an OBD1 dizzy.

I thought about that too. I'm gonna get a fresh distributor tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

What else contributes to spark on a D16Z6?

EDIT: A little more reading has told me that the Yellow/Green wire on the clip to the Dizz is the power wire. If it isn't getting power, apparently your car won't spark. Pin D14 or D15 on the ECU is the power wire to the dizz. Can anybody confirm that or is somebody on another forum making shit up?

- Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:45 am #213590 it'd be interesting to know if you have a ECL at all?? Mine isnt sparking either and I have a code 10 (IAT), apparantly that wont cause it to stop sparking but im not so sure... Maybe youre IAT was disturbed when swapping TB's??? just going out on a limb tbh

did you make sure the TPS and MAP plugs aren't switched???

since you got a new dizzy, they only work one way..

take the cap off . spin the rotor 180 degrres( half of full turn) towards the front bumper (direction you should turn) so the points that go into the cam are reversed.

Try that see if it works. AGAIN they only work one way. if one way the car wont start. try it the other way.

The advantage of this is also that it will only hook up one way. Those tabs are off center so if it is rotated 180* it won't line up with the slots in the cam and won't go in.

I blew the headgasket a while back and it caused the car to heat up really badly so I figured I may have melted some of the wires in the harness. I looked over the harness today to see what I could find and noticed the biggest of the 3 plugs on the passenger side was disconnected. I plugged it back in, turned the key and the car fired right up. No CEL and no problems.

Thanks again to anyone that offered any help. I feel totally stupid for not thinking of this sooner lol.
