#234913 so does any one know what the right amount of psi would be to push on an automatic d16zg cause ive heard that if you push more than 7 psi you can burn up gears in the tranny and i was wondering if more than 6 would hurt a stock motor?

#234919 Figuring on how many psi to go is pointless as 10psi on a small t25 turbo is totally different then 10psi on a bigger t3/t4.

Stock rods are good till 200 hp at the crank. Going past 200hp on stock rods is only asking for trouble.

You can make as much boost you want until you hit 200hp. I am not sure how much abuse a D Series automatic can take. But if tune for 200hp at the crank the tranny should stay happy.

Thanks for clearing that up, but I would like to add something to what you said. I think many people are confused when it comes to boost. Most are focusing on a psi number instead of building and tuning for a hp range. Like you said, psi is useless to go by because the airflow output varies for each turbo at the same psi.

#235302 Compression also has a lot to do with it. If you get dished pistons and run like 8.0:1 compression, you'd probably hit like 18 Psi before reaching that 200hp mark.

A common misconception with boost is lower compression = better. That isn't true. If you can get a good enough tuner that can tune your car at stock (or better) compression, it will make more horsepower, faster, with more efficiency from the boost.
