D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#278263 So I bought my ej1 in January, and it has had code 14 since then. I have changed out the iacv 4 times, cleaned out the fitv, and changed the fitv. I have ran a straight wire from the ecu to the sensor and nothing same idle problem, and I can't drive slow with it cuz I bounces the idle around. The only thing that I can think of is changing out the ecu. Any other suggestions of what I might have missed? Oh I also changed the pcv valve, and bled the coolant system, and changed the coolant temp sensor.

Any ideas? I really need to get this fixed to smog it.

#278287 Yeah it is bone stock. The guy I bought it off of said that he had just put a new headgasket. But that's it. Do you think its the ecu?

#278635 swap your iacv plug and you tps plug and see what happens i had this happen to me it drove me nuts but its a pretty common mistake when doing headgaskets/ intake manifold

#278671 I'll try it again, I did it before, but doesn't hurt trying, I'm still looking for someone with an auto p06 ecu to try. The guy I bought the car off of said that this problem started right after he re did the head gasket anything else you can think of, that can possibly be. Hooked up wrong? I was also messing with it more, and loosened up the tranny cable a bit, and now it only idles up, and down in neutral, or park

#280401 maybe you should try the intake mani gasket again i did this 3x to my car took it off ones to see if it was bad and it wasnt still didnt work try the second time and still didnt and then one last time and it was broken kinda wierd but 13 bucks later the check engine light came off and eratic idle disapeared. but u should check ecu also. bcause mine had a bad resister and it didnt do the idle until i changed it and then went after the intake mani gasket.

hope this helps

#280402 the intake manifold idea is a good one.

although not the same car by far, my moms 92 3.4L Lumina had the headgasket go bad and started to leak and it would idle very high when cold then all over the place when warm. it would bounce up and down stall u name it.

something to think about specially after trying all the stuff u already have

#280413 Any vacuum leak will cause bouncy idle. with my cx hatch it was the fast idle valve sticking carbon and oil deposits gummed it all up. with my 93 accord it was the intake manifold gasket. my technique for finding a vacuum leak is the spray bottle trick. just spray/mist water around the vacuum areas and seals(any where the engine could be drawing air from that it shouldn't) and listen for idle changes. with my accord it was night and day once i found the leak and sprayed it. hope this helps. keep us posted.

#280441 You can also use carb cleaner to find the leaks :thumb:

#280572 So just spray around the area? I'm going to try that, and let you guys know. I tried the swapping of plugs from the tps, and that wasn't it. [/img]

#280573 if you cant find a leak anywhere the pcv might be stuck open... rip the vac line off the manifold leading to the pcv and plug it at the manifold if it ceases swaps the pcv.

#280574 I already changed out the pcv

#283926 Finally!!!!!! I found everything that was wrong with it. First the intake manifold gasket was bad. It was leaking a lot. I changed that out, but still had code 14. So I finally just bought an ecu off eBay, and that was it. My check engine light went away and my car running smooth. After all though I tried to smog it, and the cat was bad, changed that out and passed smog. Now that i passed smog, and have my smog set up, can't wait to start looling around for a swap!!! Thanks for all your input.
