#70739 :D ok i was wondering, ive been in a freinds vtec a while back and i remember a defiant kick in the balls jolt of power when it kicked in. Now like ive said i really am still learning about hondas and theyre engines and i just want to know more about mine but dont know what im looking for when i search this forum. My valve cover says vtec but ive never felt it, and ive heard you can easily spot the vtec mechanism. I cant seem to see it.

i know you guys have seen this pic already but can someone actually take it and circle what the hell im looking at here lol!

Heres maybe a better pic?

Am i just being a monster noob here or what? Cant seem to find a pic showing the mechanism up close. lol Please be patient im trying to get it here lol. I think i saw something about that SOHC engines only benefit from the VTEC mechanism on the intake valves. i remember now my freinds was a dohc so im sure the activation of the vtec would be definatly different due to it affecting the intake and exhaust valves. Anyone with a d15b or anyone ever see a vid of it in action? Help a noob! :thumb:

#70748 Is it possible that his vtec solenoid is toast? Or there might be something wrong with his ecu? :?

#70777 Not likely that the solenoid is bad. The filter inside can get clogged but it would have to be really severe. All it is is a switch that controls oil flow.

This is a swap? Most likely it's the wrong ECU or it was never wired. Check the ECU for the code "P28".

#70778 Haha! Look at the pic! You can see the VTEC solenoid isn't plugged into anything. Its so common to see engine swaps, even B16's where the VTEC isn't hooked up. What's the point?!

It's just two wires!

#70789 Ok just went downstairs to check on that one suspended. Youre half right. There is a white and a blue wire going to the solenoid except the blue one is cut off.

They run directly to the ecu. Ghettoly. Very Very Ghettoly.

Ok also for some of you who have seen my first post heres the two ecus it came with.
a p05 which is currently installed.
Image

And a p06. i plugged it in and the engine tops out at a low 4-5000 rpm?(dunno i dont have a tach but im guessing) Engine idles perfectly but engine tops out in 2 secs. I have a video if anyone would like to see.

Ok so next question. any diy for hooking up a solenoid? Wheres theis drk blue wire plug in on the connector? It seems like the wire connected to the solenoid, a single green, goes into the connector and splits into two? white and drk blue? [EDIT] Can either of the ecus even work with
it? suspended you were saying i need a p28? if so is it bad to use the p05? I mean ive noticed with the p05 it doesnt top out where i think it should. First and second gear is over real quick. :?

#70809 I was also looking online just now about p28's. Would i need a different harness/adapter? :? [EDIT] Now i found this! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/P06-Hond ... enameZWDVW

"ECU Code: 37820-P06-A02

These ecu can be converted to accept vtec command and will operate as if it were P28 ECU"

Is that possible/correct? :hehe:

#70811 Ur never gonna pop vtec without a P28. P05 and P06 are non vtec ECUs. P28 will plug right in no adapter. Im runing my non vtec on a P28 right now. Just throws a code because it cant find the vtec.

#70822 Tampa... Yea vtec never worked unless he had an external switch like a toggle. Dont chip the P06 Just get a P28 save urself the hassle.

#70823 The P05 is for a D15B8 8V. It will run w/out vtec but it runs like shit...

#70825 Beleive it or not HOLY SHIT! he had a switch on the dash that i had no idea what it did! it was broke though. is it possible to wire a vtec to a switch? lol wow that sounds so ghetto. is it bad i wanna try it? lol :hehe: And for the p05 ecu... it runs pretty damn good. i just opened the p05 and the p06 neither are chipped. How about the OBD1 ECU VTEC Conversion kit? Doesnt seem to hard. ive been known to solder here and there. http://www.xenocron.com/products.php?page=chippingkits

#70832 IDK id buy a P28 VTEC is designed to work at certain RPMs. If you start messin with that then ur not gettin the full potential. And like stated above ^^^ SOHC VTEC is not real noticeable only a change in RPM pitch really. Its not a B :?
