#125709 Hey so I have a VX and the current engine already had a faulty O2 sensor and now has a bad MAP sensor. After looking into the cost of replacing them I said fuck that, was quoted almost $500 parts and labor mostly parts. I have all summer and want more power so I figure I can get a D16Z6 long block for $500 or so. I am prolly getting in over my head but I can follow instructions, but just curious can I just swap the long block, or do I need anything else? I already have an EX tranny in there and know the same axles work, just curious about the ECU and or wiring harness?

Anyway, any other tips you have are cool. Also any other things I should change out while I do the engine? I already planned on the timing belt, spark plugs/wires and all the gaskets I can, might even do the head gasket while the engine is out, but anything else I should know would be a great help.

#125711 for the swap, you'll need to convert the 5 wire o2 sensor to 4 wire o2 sensoe and buy a manual p28 ecu. Everything else is a direct swap, although I'm not sure if the distributor will bolt up...

I wouldn't worry about the head gasket unless it is for sure bad. It's not much harder to change once the motor is in the car. They don't really go bad on a well maintained engine. What you do want to replace while you are doing the timing belt, is the Water Pump, since you have to remove the timing belt to change it. Both of those are easier to do with the motor out of the car.

#125938 If you've done a tranny swap then you can handle a VX to Z6 swap. Not all VX's are 5 wire O2. Only federal models and 1992 CA models are.

The Z1 and Z6 distributors are the same part.

Changing an O2 sensor and a MAP sensor are so ridiculously easy that you might as well just do it even if you're going to swap the motor later. Just go to the junkyard and find a throttle body-mounted MAP sensor. If you can't find any Civics, then look at other Hondas / Acuras. The two little screws can be on there quite tight. What I always do is carefully break them loose with some vice grips, then screw them out.

I know I have a couple extra MAP sensors if you are lazy. PM me an offer with shipping and your address.

O2 sensor is $80-100. Get an O2 sensor socket or wrench, or just take it to a muffler shop and have them do it.

#128542 thanks for the replies, I just picked up a z6 long block and p28 ECU today. Now I just need to get the new timing belt and water pump. Also this engine was pulled from a wrecked car and the oil pan has a hole in it, can I just get a new oil pan gasket and use the pan off my D15Z1? and how do I go about converting from the 5 wire to 4 wire O2 sensor? Now I will just spend this week prepping for the swap and hopefully do it next weekend. :thumb:
