Ok i have a 92 CX with a 16 valve 1.5 d15y7...iv already put on headers, a cheap cold air intake, and cut the cat out of it but i'm in serious need of some more power.

i want to keep it N/A if at all possible!! i know a lot of you are gonna scream at me to boost it, but i 1) don't have the money and 2) am going to college so i don't have the time... so with that out of the way, whats a good way to give me a few more hp???

also i have a 06 cobalt SS motor (for those that don't know its a supercharged 2.0 liter motor out of a Chevy) has anyone heard of swapping one into an eg???

Never heard of D15y7, do you men D15b7? it is a 16v motor. The cx came from the factory with a D15b8, it was an 8 valve motor.

Unfortunately, you have already done all the cheap mods to get any power from your motor. A high flow catback/muffler could help since you already have the headers. You could have headwork done which isn't cheap but would help with HP. I don't know if anybody even makes cams for the D15b7

I have never heard of the SS Cobalt motor in a civic, but if you pulled it off, that would be amazing.

ok if you dont have alot of money i am positive you wouldnt be able to properly get that chevy motor installed nor would you want to just another american pos.....

Anyhow to help resolve the money delema sell that motor.

Then maybe get a Z6 or get a z6 head/y8 head p28 ecu do a mini me headswap, and put in a z6/y8 transmition which will have a shorter gear ratio around where i live that would be less than well 200 easily if you have connections.....it will then have a bit higher compression, and your transmition wont be as long geared......

That is your best bet for the money its well worth every penny. I have a cx as well and also have money problem and that is what im running and it gets the job done tho i still have teh cx header and stuff on there.......

So yea id say minime the thing maybe shave the head a bit to add a bit more compression, and find a good transmition, most likely your best bet would be to search your local salvage yards or craigslist or local honda people etc etc....

I would recommend as they did to make a Minime, Attach a EX/Si Tranny off a D16z6 or D16y8. That should make a fun Daily Driver, when you need more power, say when you wanna race someone, Spray some Nitrous. It wont wear your engine out as fast as if you Turbo.

yes "teal" i did mean d15b7 sorry bout that. its the stock motor that came in the canadian CX from what i hear.

i guess the only useful suggestion (for me) would be exhaust upgrade and possibly shave the head, but thats still expensive.

whats the benefit of swapping a trans from an EX/Si? and is it even a direct bolt on to my current d15?

also the chevy swap wouldnt happen ANY time soon lol, that'd wait till after i finished college and had something other than my cx to drive. but for the haters of a well built chevy, hit me up in a few years we'll race

ex/si has shorter gears for better acceleration. your cx is long geared for fuel economy. and bring on your slow-balt!!! j/k

another question...would a mini-me swap really help for the money?

i found another forum where a guy walks you through swapping a d16z6 or a d16y8 VTEC head onto my d15 block...any opinions on which is better??

dont know my "d's" too well but i do know that the Z6 is older, which usually means cheaper? and i know its OBD1, not sure if the y8 is or if even matters. but pretty sure they are both bout even in power their gonna put out.

and yes you'll notice that your car is no longer a turd!

d16y8 will yield higher compression ratio for a few more HP, but you will need to use higher octane gas. Try to get the y8 manifold too if you go that route.

The d16z6 head & intake manifold is also a good combo without the premium fuel needed.

Here's a DIY of the y8 mini-me swap

The z6 is a little easier as it does not involve relocating or drilling a hole for the IAT sensor.

well since it only takes me at most 25 bucks to fill it up i'll look into the y8.

The z6 head will be a better choice for you car. Wont have to mess with adding a IAT sensor, and its a obd1 setup just like your car.

You wont notice the difference between the z6 and y8 at all. I have had both.

looks like the z6 will save some money on parts and definitely gas.

use the D16Z6 head, the D16A6 pistons (flat) and the D16Y8 head gasket... great combination, great compretion ratio, great power!!
