What distributor are you trying to use on what head? You can do it that way but it's really better to buy the correct distributor. You will get the full adjustability of ignition timing with out having to rig it on with just 2 bolts. I don't recommend ghetto rigging something that important. Used dizzy's are only $50 and then you can sell your old one for $50

I tried using my old D15b7 dizzy. I widened the holes to try to and use but ultimately gave up as I couldn't get it timed correctly.
I picked up a D16z6 Dizzy for 60bucks locally.

where do i check the head for casting #'s to find out which one is on it . and yeah id rather pick up a new dist. but im doing this for a friend that just bought the car . but im gonna convince him to buy the z6 dist. as soon as he can spare the $...
Is there a book out that shows all the cansting numbers and what they mean for honda ... i got one for small block chevys but havent been able to find a honda one yet .

easy way to tell if it is a z or y8 head.
d15b7 dizzy will fit y8 head but not D16z6. D16z6 dizzy will only fit z6 head (unsure about jdm d15b)
y8 head has more square shaped combustion chambers
z6 head chambers are perfectly round.
y8 cam gear looks like a 5 spoke rim
z6 cam gear looks not that cool
z6 head has p28 stamped somewhere I believe.
not sure what stamp y8 has.
y8 valve cover just says "Honda" but it will also fir a z6 head.

i tried doing the mini me swap and reusing my dizzy with only two bolts in... well it fails
the timing will be out by a mile. 180* to be excact.
you need to pull a dizzy off a vtec head
