my car has been overheating and leaking a lot of coolant. the leak starts slow and then progresses as the car heats up. i think its starting from where the fitting is for the hose that goes from the head to the firewall. not exactly there but in that area. it leaks down the front of the engine/transmission

i have no white smoke or milky oil so i dont think its the head gasket

this ruined my week bigtime and i dont wanna get ripped off by a mechanic

has this happened to anybody else? what can it be?

#140472 take the intake box off so you can see the hoses better
and fill up the raditior and start the car and look for the leak

but if its comin down on teh front of the blok its prob the hose under
the dizzy comming fromt eh head to the fire wall

if it is that hose then its like a 20 dollar fix :thumb:

oh and welcome to the site :thumb:

#140532 Just be careful your temps don't get too hot or the head could warp and you would have an expensive problem. as mentioned, this sounds like it's only the hose :thumb:

you should go buy both UPPER and LOWER radiator hoses and a thermostat. its all cheap. you want the other hose thats probably just as old to start leakin next week? change both! its very easy too.

#140595 to me it sounds like your talking about the heater hoses and if thats what your talking about those are very cheap and all part stores should have them :thumb:

#140597 i had a more experience guy check it out about an hour ago and according to him its the hose that goes from the head to the firewall. it may have gotten brittle by the clamp on the head side of the hose. im HOPING its just the hose and nothing else.

also my thermostat is out causing the fan to not come on

so i went n bought a hose, clamps, thermostat, an thermostat gasket. the guy is gonna do it all for me tomorrow.

i know some of you are gonna say its easy and i should do it myself but after he was willing to drive to my house n diagnose i figure i might as well help him out and give him the job. besides he only wants 50 bucks

#142007 UPDATE

the hoses have been changed

the hose going from the head to the firewall had expanded and got a hole big enough to stick my finger in.

It's the heater hose, not the radiator inlet and outlet hoses. Read. Although that's not a bad idea to replace those two at the same time as well.

had that happen to me 3 times...i couldn't replace it the first 2 times so i just cut it back and put it back on, but it's a pain to get to and caused it to leak like a siv....

replace that damn hose...and also look at the one that goes from the head to the intake manifold
