D16Y8 Head/ D16z6 Block or D16y8 Head/ D15b7 Block???
i think D16Y8/z6 gives 13.94 compression n D16Y8/b7 gives 13.14 compression..
correct me if im wrong? im tryn to choose which is better.

the d16z6 bottom end is stronger than the d15b7
(technically, the d16y8/d16z6 combo isn't a mini-me because you are starting with a vtec engine and just swapping another vtec head but I know what you mean)

the y8/z6 motor would not have a 13.94:1 compression. It is actually 9.45:1. It is also, like Teal said, not a true mini-me. You are just swapping one vtec head for another. The y8 head is a more mid range head with smaller combustion chamber.
The b7/ with y8 head is a true mini-me motor. With a compression of 10.65:1. The b7 bottom end has a weaker build than that of the z6, with alot less after market support. You can swap D series pistons freely, its the rods that are not easy to get.
Either would be a good motor to build. If you do it right, the mini-me will be faster.

almost any oem d-series piston swapped into a d15b7 would result in a much lower compression ratio.
likewise, PM3 (d15b7) piston in a d16 would increase the CR considerably (depending on the head)
this is due the differences in deck height, and rod length from d15 to d16.

like greasedmonkey said the y8head/z6block will not yield 13's comperssion. also i wouldnt waste your time with the y8/zy build because all the work to change a head is definatly not worth that hardly noticable compression increase.
the b7/y8 build would be the shit. its gonna have higher comprresiion in the 11's and will be faster. also its a true mini me and time and effort of changing the head will be greatly noticed and worth it. i would just build the b7 bottom eend with new oem bearings, oil pump, rings, ect. and then put the y8 head on properly as shown in the DIY and you be set .

I already stated what the compression of the Mini-me motor would be, and it isnt in the "11's" as you say.

my bad man i was on the internet on my phone when i typed this response so i couldnt go back to see the exact numbers you posted and just thought you said 11's only to realize later that was incorrect.
my mistake to mregcivic the compression would be as greasedmonkey said to be 10.65:1

why doesnt anyone just buy high comp. pistons
and a aftermarket gasket
and the mini-me swap?
