I am hoping to get a d16z6 swapped into my 93 civic cx within the next few months. And just wanting to ask these few questions.

1) Where is the best place to look for them?

2) How much can i expect to pay?

3) I think it is but is it a direct fit?

4) What should i look for while looking at used engines?

5) How hard is an engine to swap for a guy with no experience? and if it is too hard, how much can i expect to pay to change the engine and transmission?

Thanks guys and if yall have anymore questions and concerns let me know. :D

1) Where is the best place to look for them? junk yards or buy online.

2) How much can i expect to pay? 300-800$ roughly

3) I think it is but is it a direct fit? yup just add vtec wires, and knock sensor wires, and the matching ecu, i believe

4) What should i look for while looking at used engines? low millage, clean engine/ clean plugs( if looking in junkyard)

5) How hard is an engine to swap for a guy with no experience? and if it is too hard, how much can i expect to pay to change the engine and transmission? not sure on this one but probably 500-1000 for the labor.

You don't have to worry about the knock sensor, that's OBD2 :thumb:

Can you name some of the sites trusted to buy a d16z6?

swapping a D16Z6 in for the stocker is a piece of cake.
As long as you arent taking the head apart, or doing anything that has to do with internals, It is pretty much realitively easy to do, and a good thing to try on your own.
It will make you more comfortable with the car and make you proud of yourself knowing you saved alot of money doing it yourself.

If you were swapping a K-series or even an H i would say maybe go to a shop, But putting a d-series in for a d-series is no big deal.

If you decide to do so, good luck, brotha.

I would go for a D15B, they are pretty much the same thing as the Z6, but i have heard they are more peppy and fun to drive, Plus i think it is the same procedure as a D16z6.

A good site is Hmotorsonline.com, i have heard nothing but good things about them.

heres a link to a d15b

Do you know the max hp that motor can take without changing out the internals?

And im trying to figure up a price, so do you know any other parts i would need to order other than the ecu and the 5 speed tranny im going to be ordering with it?

The d-series you have now has everything that you would need to use if it doesnt come with the swap (axles, Shift linkage, alternator, fuel injectors, etc)
Think of it as pretty much replacing the block/trans/ECU with the same thing, if that makes any sense, and adding 3 wires.

i craigslisted a d15b when my z6 blew and when i found a good one with only 30k on it, i paid 585 and put it in in like two hours when i got home. plus finding the right motor is the hard part. there r so many diy's everywhere that putting it in is simple. i would agree that the d15b is a little bit more peppier. they love to jump in rpm's :woot:

i went with a D15b when My z6 crapped out on me. Easier to find and more often than not in better condition. I got mine from a local JDM importer of motors.

Stock Sohc Vtec motors can handle 200-250 before bad things happen inside.
