surging idle when warm d15b8

hey guys my car has always wistled at high way speed, i thought maybe it was a door seal leak or whatever. and my idle has always seemed kinda low. any ways my civic's idle now surges in the usual range when stopped at a light or whatever after driving until the car is warm. my car burns oil i just thought id throw that out there. i ordred a new tb/im gasket. and for those who may not know the d15b8 8 valve engine uses different gaskets than the 16 valve versions. so if any one has any thing else to suggest while im at it by all means throw it out there.

I would try cleaning out the Fast Idle Thermo Valve first :thumb:

have you bled your coolant?

yeah what he said... do that first :thumb:

when your engine gets warm and the thermostat opens, you may not have enough coolant in your system then, causing the idle to bounce.

well i cleaned out what i am 90% sure was my Fast Idle Thermo Valve, it was located on the back of my intake manifold next to the throttle body, it did not come apart so i just sprayed it out with brake cleaner it looks alot cleaner so ill post the results tonight.

thats the idle air control valve. the fast idle thermo valve is under the throttlebody. it has the coolant lines running to it.

cx's are not located under the throttle body, they take a unit that does both, and it goes on the back of the intake manifold.

spraying out the fast idle valve portion of it has seemed to help but it has stuck twice since cleaning it out, but the idle quickly went back to normal, so ill spray it again and the throttle body out tomorrow.
