#179882 Hello everyone,

This may be a simple thing, but since I'm still relatively new to the Honda game I figured I'd seek some expert opinions :thumb:.

I have a 1992 DX with a D15B2, IHE, and I'm overdue to change the plugs (haven't done so since I got her :? ). Are Hondas picky about plugs, or does any certain plug operate better than another? My old Nissan Stanza, for instance, had idling problems unless I used NGK's.

Also, I'd like to clean or replace my intake; if I go the replacement route, I'd like to not break the bank, but I'd say $50-100 is doable. Based on this picture (sorry for not having a better one, I'm at work and can't get a better one at the moment) is it worth trying to clean this? Just replace the filter? Get a new filter and pipe?

I'd appreciate any input!

:D

#179884 Use NGK's or Denso's and verify the gap.

For $100 you're not going to get a better intake than what you got. Get yourself an AEM dry flow filter and put it on that pipe.

#179885 as far as plugs go ive allways used ngk v-powers, and ive used g-powers and there a good lower priced platinum plug... the laser and iridum ngk's are a good plug but are pricey... its ur call but stick with ngk all the way :thumb:

#179901 the uk d15b2's are single point injection, has that had a mpi conversion?? as for the plugs, either denso or ngk's as entioned, it tells you which ones to use on your cam pulley cover :thumb:

#179933 Thank you all for the quick replies. I'll be certain to pick up some NGK's after work today :thumb:

As for the intake, for now I think I'll just do the filter. While a pipe is a pipe for the most part, my only issue with mine is its location - it kinda jams the filter up against the radiator, and I'm not even sure I can get a 5" filter in there. Optimally I'd like the filter to sit where the stock airbox would be. Then again, I don't know what kinda airflow difference there may be between the two locations, even though its probably negligible.

In any event, that will have to wait until I can take a look at it and figure out what my options are. Thanks again for the input!

moving the pipe over to where it should be, ie over where the stock box is supposed to be, will result in colder air being drawn into the engine, being where it is located now it could suffer from heat soak. buy a aem v2, they are a great short ram and the quality is excellent.

#186826 Figured I'd bump this instead of opening a new thread. Finally got around to installing the new spark plugs today, it's so nice to hear/feel the difference in idle with new plugs.

I inspected my filter a bit closer and actually found out that the filter rubs up against a wire mount next to the dizzy, actually punctured a tiny hole in it  so I'm looking to A) get a new filter and B) consider a new pipe to move the filter into the stock airbox location.

Does this kit look alright? Aem Short Ram Dryflow. I figure the filter itself is about $45 online, so to get it in better position for another $50, that's fine by me. If, of course, you guys think it's worth getting.

Appreciate anyone's $.02, as always.

Thanks!

#186840 I would get rid of the stock piping. From what I saw in your picture, its still there. That is restricting some air... I would try to get that thing off. Its really tough though... I had to take my whole front bumper off... :?

As for intake, get a new kit. An AEM short ram will be more than fine. I would buy the whole kit.

BTW your link has malware.

#186842 Hey Eric,

First, thanks for your input :D

Second, what kind of malware warning did you get from that link? It's just from AEMOnly.com, which is one of AEM's suggested online retailers (I linked to AEMOnly from AEM's site). I didn't get any notifications on my end, and I run Avira Antivir and Firefox (both of which will usually notify you of suspicious sites).

Third, you are correct, I do still have the stock intake piping. I've had my bumper off a few times already haha, it is a PITA but you raise a good point about the restriction, once I get the short ram kit I'll probably take care of it.

#186843 Dunno what kind, just says malware. I'm running Avast!. If I visit the site, says threat detected...
