Z6 build help??? SKIMMING HEADS??

im in the middle of rebuildin a d16z6 an was wonderin how much to get the head skimmed?? my m8 sed half a mil bt i was wunderin how far i could go?

im not 100% sure, but i have heard of dohc vtec motors with shaved heads, and that if you shave the head too much you can (not allways will but you can) loose a tooth off of your timing and then you have to advance the cam/ cams to pick up the diff. for what you lost in shaving the head and loosing a tooth off the timing belt, and this kinda cancels out what you gain in compression from shaving the head, i dnt see where this would be any diff with a sohc, as far as getting it surfaced for a fresh build, i would say take the least ammount off :thumb:

if you're are milling for compression, max .060, with p28(z6) pistons.
but you will need and adjustable cam gear to correctly set cam timing.

if you are just 'skimming' to have a flat surface you should be ok.
unless, of course, the head is warped.

cheers for the advice lads much appreciated. im probly gunna just skim it flat for now as it needs to be ready for a show in may. im gunna hav stock cams an pullys untill i go boost so will look at skimming further and advancing the timing then
