#184004 Possibly thinking of finally doing a turbo on my Civic cx im thinking of either repairing my Z6 block and grabbing a crank from my junkyard for my Z6block i have sitting in my basement since its bare.....but yea then i can drive my car whilst i build up my build.....

Cost to fix possibly the rod knock in my Z6.....
-main bearing set-47
-rod bearing set-30
-oil pan gasket 13

so around a hundred with oil and supplies......still unsure since my car as it sits needs alot of work might just take her off the road for the time being and work on it as i build the motor.....so i have a nice car by mid summer or something....not sure...

but heres my setup ive been researching upon....
id like to hit at least 160hp with this build possibly even 180hp but yea not sure yet.....
-------------
Block
-D16Z6 Im thinking of having it hot tanked so its clean and free of contaminents but im sure i could clean it up myself and get it looking awesome for less than that would cost....

Rods
-B18a1 (LS) rods came out of a low miles motor and yea better than the thin D series rods

Pistons
-Not completely sure i loved thefact that with my research the 98-00 civic GX pistons would have worked as you done need machine work tofit them on the LS rods.... but i cant seem to find them and im sure thedealership may have them but yea they are probaly expensive and ive been playing around with setups on the Zealautoworks compression testor and dosent seem to pan out.....

However here is one that dose work...
-P2M-00 D16y5 usdm which seems to give me about
a 9.68 static and 14.95:1 effective compression ratio.....

I tried Vitaras in the calc, tried others as well but some gave me a black which im guessing means too low of compression....

Any how lets get on with the Head
Low miles D16Y7 head (as i dont wish to have vtec as it never worked in my car so im guessing she dosent like vtec) wil be doing some mild port and polishing on the head and intake as well...

Head gasket id either be useing the Z6 or the double layer Y8

And for boosting purposes im thinking a T25 garet or a Volvo turbo should do me well....with 8psi or 12-13psi and sinc eim auto xing with my car i should be able to hit boost more easily with this set-up.

Mainly building this to be a daily driver X car its going to be used for daily driving and auto X as i dont like drag racing.....(wheres the thrill of the turn at high speeds lol a race last long a quarter mile maybe a couple seconds not my idea of fun but yea)......

Flywheel i aquired with my last Z6 i bought a lightweight flywheel dont know what brand or anything like that....

Also I am going to be useing an AEM trutime for the Y7 head....and i will be purchaseing the ARP Headstuds fro the Y7/8 just for extra security....

And with that said i entered in that info to the approx hp calc by zealauto...and came up with 194 at the crank and 166 at the wheel which is around what im shooting for with 8psi....but i know thats just an estimation and not a true world key but it helps in determining the right setup....and yea so what do you guys think of that??

Still in my beginning build stages trying to work things out to where i have most everything planned and thoughts of things that may need to be done or things that where unplanned etc....still going about researching can never do enough of it but i still plan on haveing a few problems along the way unplanned things that may happen but hey what build dosent have them....

#184119 i think this sounds killer :thumb:
yeah good ;luck finding gx pistons those things have been on back order for like three years
some guy on d series.org has been waiting two years for his

lol gx pistons are like tickets to see top gear yet top gear is i think last time i heard 3 years .......but meh i dont really need them there are varieties of pistons i could use with a bit of work to get them to work with the LS rods....

of coarse lol its awesome new seasons suppose to start around june july not a 100% sure tho....but yea none the less awesome.......

I am still decideing on a couple things right now im thiniking Z6 intake due to the larger runners....and possibly i was thinking of cutting it open so as to clean and port and polish it better but not a 100% sure....as i would be JB welding it and well with a boosted motor i could see that as being a weak point.....

And also decideing on an exhaust manifold i was thinking of useing my CX but not 100% sure since im still priceing things uot to get a fair idea of what i need to do....

#184128 im confused on your compression numbers
how are your static an effective that diffrent?
on a side note......

look here for the new top gears they come out like a good 6 months before aired in america

#184470 Alrighty so i cant remember if i updated this or not but i finally sold my B series so project D16x7 as im going to call it will be a go....and there will be a change since i worked out that a weeks paycheck covers 75% of the Eagle H-beam rods im gonna get a set unless i find them cheaper. but yea worked out a couple of calculations and heres what i came up with

Block
D16z6
Crank
D16z6
Head
D16Y7
Rods
Eagle H-beams
Turbo
(undecided but the T25 is looking mighty fine right now with 5-8psi)
Head gasket
Z6 regular .037 thickness
Mild port and polish
Pistons
D16z6 as it seems to give me a static compression of 9:14 to 1 and i already have a good set so no need to buy new just referbish....

and i will get a effective displacement of 14:11 to 1
with adisplacement of 1590.43cc

Approx hp
Crank-226
Wheel 192.....

Now those figures are from the Zealautoworks site so of coarse its a rough estimate but i think this friday i may start buying supplies and what not break down my Z6 once i get my buddies D16a8 off my engine stand and start working on my project of awesomeness lol

So how do you feel about my possible setup now still doing research tho lol but im working out the kinks to the whole project and stuff like that.....

#184475 sounds like a gsr/b16 killer
i like the sound of it
i say save some money and just mill some ls rods down to fit
ls rods will hold 200 hp no problem

#184505 eagle rods won't work with 'stock' pistons.
they will work with vitaras though.
d16 rods will hold 200 hp no problem.
stock honda piston ringlands are the weakest link anyway, but still good to 220-240hp (conservative)

I just want to build a reliable motor so i may just og with vitara or esteem pistons (the same) and eagle rods but yea im still not sure what to do....tho as now my ls rods are not thatgreat as they have marks in them which im sure is gonna throw off balance anyhow.....im looking into a nice thick rod and good piston as apparently the vitaras will put my compression around 7 and thats not good....trying to figure out what to do .....

i wanna have a reliable motor so i dont think stock is gonna help.....but we will see.....

use fj custom length rods with vitara pistons, and take .04 of the deck.
similar to stock CR. 9.14:1
