did a compression check on my jdm d15b and got cyl#1 120 cyl#2 130 cyl#3 130 cyl#4 120
are these bad?
i know my rings are going cause it smokes blue at high rpms or when i hammer on it
but how much longer will they last?
and can i use z6 rings if i re ring it?

I'm not familiar with the JDM D15B, so I'm not sure on the rings...
But those numbers are not too good. 180 is good.

d-mon said d16z6 rings work so in a few months ill re ring it
can bad rings hurt more than just the rings itself?

d-mon has used z6 rings SUCESSFULLY in his d15b vtec rebuild.
eventually one could break and severly score the cylinder wall, but that is probably the worst case.

Here's the Honda part number for d15b rings:

Ring set : 13011-P08-004

You can find the rest of the PNs here. http://www.d-series.org/forums/naturally-aspirated/17840-jdm-d15b-vtec-honda-part-numbers-official.html

thanks
i know about that page i did a write up with all that info on this forum
the problem with those part numbers is that they are not availible in the u.s. i found place overseas that sells them but they are like 80 bucks
researched it a bit more last night and it seems that any obd2 d series rings will work

D-mon how did you get the rings to fit arent the ones for the z6 thicker than the d15b rings?
im confused on using the z6 rings cause i read on d-series that you cant use them
only way i thought it was possible was to turn the piston on a lathe and got the slots bigger for the bigger rings

my z6 has 300 000 kms on it and my compression is between 165 and 170 so i would think 120 is not good at all

pretty sure they were z6 rings.
i will pull a piston out and measure it.
i have both.
i stopped going on d-series.org a couple of years ago.

sweet dude
either way the rings are about the same price
z6 rings are like 35 and y8 or y7 are like 40 to 45

these are the measurements i got, they are different.
very close, but still different.

ring d16z6 d15bvtec
1st 1.2mm 1.0mm
2ns 1.5mm 1.18mm
oil 2.79mm 2.78mm

when i got the rings, i was told they were d16z6 rings.
since i had no problems, i did not suspect any different.

so i did some research on the two pistons most like the p08, the pms and d17a2/a6.
they all use the same size compression rings as the p08, while the p08 uses similar oil rings as d16z6

01-03 ex (D17A2)
370686 002 004 RING SET, PISTON (STD) 1.0x1.2x2.00mm

01-03 gx
370686 002 004 RING SET, PISTON (STD) 1.0x1.2x2.00mm
only curious thing is why the others have such narrow oil ring combinations or are the mesurements off.

i guess i'll order a set and see if they fit.

no worries dude
im a member of d series so i just resaerched it there
on another note i checked the compression in the honda manual i have
184 is the correct psi
ans minumum is 135
soooo haha my rings are shot
for now i will just have to fill it with oil everytime i fill it with gas haha
