i cant rev past 5500rpm

i just bought a 94 Civic Si from a old lady(well maint)

i bought the car and it had a CEL (41) replaced the O2 sensor and cleared the code

i changed oil
change plugs,wires,cap,rotor
checked timing and its right on
vtec filter screen
tried a friends ECU
new PCV valve


things possible
Dizzy
Fuel pressure regulator
fuel filter


anyone ever have this problem?

my cousin and a few friends work for honda and they havent experienced anything like this

what r yours thoughts

if it aint revving past 5.5k id say its either ECU related or the vtec solinoid is duff :?

yeah 5500 is about the exact RPM that vtec begins at. so does it misfire at 5500, stall, or just bounce the tach as if there was a rev limiter?

Check your dizzy for water. Always start with the simple stuff!! I had the same prob. Just dry out with some paper tissues?

nothing in the dizzy i already replaced the cap and rotor
plugs and wires

and teal_dx

it just acts like its hitting the rev limit

with the engine off, have someone sit inside and push the pedal all the way to the floor. then you watch the throttle body and when they have the pedal to the floor, see if you can turn the TB open any further. may be the throttle cable or gas pedal needs adjusted.

I had to do this once, after I installed a different manifold. I thought my vtec was not working, and it turns out my throttle body was only opening about 3/4 of the way. (I didn't have a tach at the time) I was probably only getting up to 5k rpm

im going to try that here in the next couple minutes

quit working on it last night

is the dizzy it self a huge possiblity?

sometimes they get a little moisture in the cap and that causes the problem

check engine light? my single Vtec use to do that like it acts like it is in safe mode... did you let your car warm up?......

no CEL and yes the car will be up to the normal temps before i start to hammer on it

have you used a jumper to get any codes?
