D15B not starting

i am almost certain that its a starter issue, but i just want to verify with the guru's of Civic EG
when leaving for work, i had started the car without worries, and in the last split second of starting it, it made a weird sound (different than a starting sound), i shrugged it off, because the car was running, and i had to get to work.
after work, i walk out, turn the key, and it makes a weird sound, and does not start... The engine does not spin however.
I am certain the battery is not dead, because all the electronics work, and etc, but the car does not start. It makes a sound SIMILAR to the sound of the fan spinning before starting the car (when placed in the ON position, the fan has a test spin, before starting).
so, would you confirm its the starter?

go out and try to start the car. if it makes that sound let off the key and go smack the starter a few times with a hammer then try to start the car again. if that makes the problem go away you got yourself a bad starter

haha, okay, will do... Im guessing its spinning, but not coming out properly and making contact with the flywheel.
the car is still at work, i will go later once everyone has left, and push start the car (manual), take it home, and try various things.

yeah, i THiNK that there are 2 solenoids on your starter.
one to spin it and the other to engine it to the flywheel.
sounds like one solenoid is pooched and not engaging it.
check you connections to your starter.
if they look good try getting your starter tested.

well, i just went back to work parking lot, got a friend and girlfriend to push start me
started up, ran it home, then with it running, looked over it... nothing seems to be wrong...
then killed it. attempted start up. successful.
might be a loose connection... or could it actually be an occassionally faulty starter?
loose connection seems more fitting considering it started up no problems when i got home, without me using a hammer.

maybe your flywheel has a a couple of teeth broken off.

i have seen the flywheel recently, it was more than fine.
today, once again it didn't start.. hit it gently with a hammer, and it started it up like a charm...
guess i need a new starter
thanks guys!
