Why is my car sputtering and bogging?

- Mon May 17, 2010 12:50 am #194722 My car has been sputtering into every gear and you can hold the gas all the way down in 3rd and 4th gear and I will start going slower. The exhaust will make popping noises. It idles okay, when I first start it, it idles at 2,000 rpm then drops to 1,000 then back up to 1,800 then steady at 1,000 then will die to about 500 then go back up to 1,000rpm. I just replaced my primary Oxygen sensor, spark plugs and wire, distributor cap and rotor. After I replaced my fuel filter it ran good then after a while started acting slow and sluggish again. Any ideas? The engine light only comes on after driving for a while, I checked it and got a bad o2 sensor changed it and nothing changed, and autozone and places that do it for free to check the engine is only for 96 vehicles and up i have a 95 civic.

Take your o2 sensor out and look at it. is it covered with black soot? Maybe you're running too rich and fouled the o2 sensor. How's your plugs, wires, cap & rotor?

Try a different ecu?
