Brought my car to the mechanic and he said this.

He said he could not find out why my car was bogging and sputtering. Even my check engine light is on and no codes are coming up he thinks it may be my ECU. Does this sound like an ECU problem, they are keeping the car until they find something. Everything on the car is practically new, he said maybe because my temp gauge was not hooked up to read my engine temp that my ECU would read the temps wrong and mess with the engine.

If the check engine light is on, but there are no codes, and the car isnt running right at all, it may very well be the ECU

Yes, this was suggested a while ago in one of your threads about this problem. I can't remember which one, but the ecu you replaced your with may have been modified previously. get a virgin P28. :thumb:

Okay going to buy an ECU today I have a d16z6 engine from either a 95 or 96 car I think a 96 EX should the p28 work right away without modding anything?

yes P28=obd1 sohc vtec ecu

the y8 and z6 may have a difference in power but they all share the same base of being a sohc vtec and since your car is obd1 you need an obd1 ecu aka P28 but liek stated above virgin one dont get one that had a chip put in etc

Oh well I thought when I got the car the engine was a 96 d16z6 when the guy from the junkyard told me so I have been buying parts for a 96 civic. Would a d16y8 o2 sensor and fuel filter fit into a d16z6 and work?

I would just get the right ECU to begin with. Don't pay more than $100 or you're getting ripped off.

The o2 sensor is the same, as long as both are 4 wire o2's (not the 5 wire from the HX)

Not sure about the fuel filter, but why would you do this :?
I wouldn't buy a fuel filter from the junk yard...

Okay it is 4 wire and the fuel filter fits and works good and all my parts are brand new. Just trying to find a ECU right now on craigslist so I can install it tonight.

motor wise you would be fine with the 4wire O2 but the fuel filter has nothing to do with the engine .....you are confusing the crap outa me all of a sudden.....but yea the chasis year is what you get your filter fro but in this case since its a civic they pretty much use only a few filters.....

So I got a new ECU tonight from a guy for $60 the P28 I talked him down from $100. The car ran a lot better and idles great. The check engine light went away. The car still feels underpowered and bogs and spudders slightly still. Any idea the mechanic I brought it to 2 days ago had no idea what was wrong.

just do simple check up...plugs, wires, fluids, and if that keeps up could check fuel filter, make sure injectors are messed up, just a few things that iv had probs with that gave me the same probs...idk if timing would cause it to bog...just throwing that out there lol. GL :thumb:

The only thing I can think of is fuel injectors are dirty, a leak or clog in the exhaust system, or the coil pack is bad.

Brought it to a good mechanic today, I hope he finds and fixes the problem.
