first off, just wanna say this is the most reliable honda site ive been on!!! so i know you guys can help. i have a 94 dx hatchback with a y8 swap, and im using a stock p28. my problem is that the engine only revs to 6k, im wondering what i can do to remedy this, i purchased the car like this so i an unsure about what distributer it has, but only 2 bolts can be mated to the head. im willing to hear all suggestions. and thanks again for the help!

a d15b7 distributor fits the y8 head perfectly
(assuming that your wiring is OBD1, it will be a direct plug in)

I don't know if it will solve it or not, but you can't really begin to troubleshoot when you have the wrong distributor rigged on
Yes you can get them from a 92-95 DX or LX. a CX will also fit (d15b8). Just not a EX or Si or ZX (d16z6 or d15z1)
is your check engine light on?

probably a z6 distributor, td42u.
you want a b7 distributor, td41u.
then set ignition timing to 12* btdc.

okie dokie, i changed the distributor and everything plugs up perfectly. but it seemsl ike the car has even less power than before. and it tends to idle very low at times, i cleaned the throttle body and its components but nothing changed. it barely can climb to 5k. and i noticed the the cat glows red after a short drive im running out of ideas, i am willing to try anything so throw em at me

exhaust glowing red probably means you're running lean.
Did you set the timing properly w/ a timing gun?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the timing of the P28 is slightly different than the y8... but that shouldn't cause your cat to glow red.

many years ago I had a mustang gt. Seemed like I had a problem similar to yours. No power, glowing red cat. Turned out the cat itself was "clogged". All the inside of it were "rotted". Maybe this could be your problem.

yea, because the exhaust pops often and if i give it any gas then let off it stalls

all unmodded honda ecus assume the ignition is set at base timing.
for d16z6 16*bdtc
for d16y7 12*btdc
i think your cat is clogged. take it off.

Those problems could be caused by the ignition timing being way off. Very retarded timing causing very hot combustion.
