Timing Belt Tension Adjust

Hello,

I bought a 1995 civic and the engine whines. The whine is realted to the RPMs. When I bought it they said they just had a new tmining belt installed. I suspect that I need to ajdust the tension on the belt and the whine will go away.

So how do I know how tight to get the tensioner? Also can I adjust the tension without taking off the crankshaft pulley (and all the other stuff attached)?

Thanks,

G

you dont have to take the crank pulley off

you gotta pop out one of the little rubber plugs on the timing belt cover get the engine at top dead center and put a breaker bar on the crank pulley after you loosen the tensioner then turn it so far then tighten the tensioner up

thats a very rough description so dont try and do it fallowing anything I say.

Yeah, basically you need to brace the crank pulley and then tighten it to the torque spec.
