i had my alt n ac belt and fuel filter and therm replaced and all was good,
then about a couple of days later my dx begins to misfire at idle...then i check the res. for the rad and it is bone dry so I filler( the rad has coolant) up and go on my way...Then two days later i am driving home and my temp gauge goes high then low.... but y i have replaced the therm....I get home and I lift the hood and I c my res. is fine with coolant but i open the rad cap to see nothing.....
So now i think i found the reason for the misfire... oil in the spark plug tubes

but now what going on with my dissappearing coolant ....with no car piss either.... not leaking coolant....
could it b the head gasket who knows... i did have white smoke once but that was it....?

Any help would b muco apprec... b4 i go by a eg coupe and ditch my hatch

- Wed Jun 23, 2010 2:45 am #201629 I would bet on a leaking head gasket, warped head or bad thermostat. Have you ever popped your hood after driving to see your coolant overflow tank boiling over? If not, then I think you are burning the coolant. Smell your exhaust (just a little whiff, don't get sick) and see if it smells sort of sweet. That's coolant burning.

Since all this started after the thermostat was installed, there's a chance that it could have something to do with this. Perhaps it was installed backwards or is just defective and didn't do its job. The engine overheated & warped the head slightly, now you're losing coolant.

Just a random guess... could be HG as well. Check around the thermostat for leaks too.

- Wed Jun 30, 2010 9:46 pm #202689 there is a coolant hose that goes from the back side of your head to the bottom side of your IACV check that hose carefully i had a pinhole leak and it was giving me an erratic idle and had it looked at to see if this guy could find a vacuum leak (while having my rear wheel hubs replaced) turns out that hose had a leak and wasnt leaking out any fluids bc by the time it would have enough pressure to leak it was just evaporating.. hope that helps

If my coolant overflow tank is boiling over, does that mean I more than likely have a head gasket prob. or warped head, or bad thermo? One time I forgot to put my overflow cap back on and my eng got pretty hot, but I didn't think it was too bad though, no leaks or blown hoses or anything like that. Ever since then, I'm adding coolant every couple of days. Could it be the thermo got dried open or closed? Hopefully its NOT a warped head or gasket. I'll probably try a new thermostat, and rad cap this weekend...start the cheap and easy way.
