D16A6 is a CRX/EF Si motor. almost positive honda never made a "D16A".. get out a rag and some pb blaster and check that engine code stamp again....

I also got 1 too. Valve cover only reads "HONDA" But its VTEC. Some of my friends say that d16a came from 2000 model civic ek domani. They say its only 16 camlobes. 127hp, head codes reads as "P2J" I dont know if this is correct.

Well I had a JDM SOHC VTEC ZC and the stamp just said "ZC".

Post a pic of the intake manifold.

in as far as my recollection of this jdm d16a... this is the new version of the ZC sohc vtec... ZC sohc vtec have already gone 3 versions (depends on the valve cover) now the d16a is honda's latest... if i remember it right, d16a is the jdm version found on the ek in japan, if its d16a with additional extention (e.g. d16a7, d16a8 etc.) its not from japan and is only 16 cam lobes, the same as those PZ/PJ series. jdm d16a has 20 cam lobes same as the ZC. hope this helped.

Not to revive an old thread, but I just picked one of these up from a local importer and I only bought it because I had never heard of it.

This is going to be my new boost engine and I've read it has a higher compression ratio, HP, and torque then the USDM D16Z6(my current engine). Does anyone know why? I kind of assumed the internals had to be better made, which meant they would handle the boost better. And having the higher compression ratio would also make my boost more efficient. But I would like to know some specifics about this engine.

What I currently know:
It is actually stamped 'D16A' I've checked several times.
It's OBD1
Has the same valve cover as the JDM D15B

Any input is greatly appreciated.

yea its basically a d16z6 with a higher comp.ratio aliitle more hp & trq.
it was def. faster than the z6 great motor. i added b18b injectors header hi flow cat and catback, intake, comp cam stage 1, cam gear and tuned with a s200 . it made 148hp & 139 trq. you could def feel the power bump from 3500 til 6500 after it just died off a 130. was planning on put this t04e t3/t4 setup on but sold the car bought a boosted b20 4 dr teg . but i still wonder what could've of been.

Awesome. Good to know. I've noticed the head code and intake manifold code are different, so i'm wondering if it has the same head and cam as the D15B, which would be a little more aggressive VTEC cam lobe profile.

I'm stoked to get this in the car and tuned because I think it's going to throw down some badass numbers.
