Head Swap Info

Can I put a D15 head non vtec to replace my D16z6 ? I ask cause I have a blown head gasket and a snapped screw in my vtec head (I snapped the screw trying to remove the valve cover) :x and i have a D15 in my garage would I also need a dx ecu ? P06 or can I use my stock P28 ?

yes you can put the D15b7 head on your D16z6. Use the P06 ecu.

Why not just spend a few bucks on a bolt extractor? All you do is drill a small pilot hold in the snapped bolt then use the extractor in reverse and it bites onto the bolt and threads it out.

+1 try and fix the broken bolt and just change the head gasket. or worst comes to worst bring it in to the machine shop have them make sure it isn't warped and extract the broken bolt for ya at the same time. ask them if you pay cash would make it cheaper sometimes the might do it under the table

much better because the z6 block doesn't have an oil jet

Thanks for the info guys i'll try to have them fix the broken bolt with the gasket i'll try and get some pricing around town today. one question is there a patteren to unbolting the valve cover ?

start in the middle and loosen them all evenly to the outside. The reason the bolts break is people over tighten them. It's not uncommon, I've had one snap before. I think they are only supposed to be something like 8 ft/lbs which isn't much more than finger tight. Check your haynes/chiltons manual for exact specifications :thumb:
