my z6 starts to get hot when i get on it. if i rev past 5k my car will start over heating but when i dont rev high my car stays normal temp. i flushed the coolant and changed the thermo. i dont understand why my car would over heat at all. when i checked my oil it doesnt look like milk shake. it just normal oil. and seems as though i have to keep adding coolent if i smash on the car. could it be a clogged radiator?

If you're adding coolant then you're loosing it somehow. Does the exhaust smell sweet after revving high?
Check for leaks: water pump, hoses, radiator....

check your coolant and see if it has a clear oily film on the surface.

The best thing to do is to get a hold of a coolant pressure tester. Pump the pressure up to 20 PSI and look for leaks.

Since you probably don;t have one. Turn the car on and let it idle till it get to operating temperature. Make sure that the coolant level good. Then, Start looking for leaks.

Coolant doesn't just go to waste. If coolant is missing there is a leak. If you see white smoke coming from the tail pipe you are burning coolant.

@teal_dx my smoke does not smell sweet. but on random occasion it will let out some smoke.

@cmdeoro so what does it mean if its burning coolant?

@juice it would still be head gasket even if the oil looks fine? its not mixing or anything?

i hope it's not for your sake but, it's goin somewhere. hopefully you just got a leak. check ALL your coolant lines. don't forget about the little ones that run to the intake mani and such.

head gasket can have a leak which can push air into your cooling system, forcing coolant out where it can (often times the overflow tank)
There's a lot more psi in your combustion chamber than in your coolant system.

This can happen without ever smoking from the tail pipe or putting coolant in your oil.

Head gasket is a possibility if it smokes.

Worst case scenario would be a sleeve. I actually had a Suburu Impreza come to my shop once with a similar concern. It would only over heat under extreme load.

Ended up being that when you accelerated the car combustion would leak through a very small crack on the sleeve. However, I doubt thats whats wrong with your car.

yes some times when it gets over the red point. water will start steaming through the water resivor. so in this case it wouldnt be the radiator in this case?
