I bought a swap it was suppose to be D16Z6 but i never checked it when i got it. i was cleaning the block and i saw the engine code on the block and it was a D15B7 the head looks like a VTEC head cause it has a vtec solenoid. how do can i identify the head? Also how can i identify the tranny. ill post picture later of the swap.

not true. the d16y7 is non-vtec and has spark plugs on the front.

Probally a mini-me. Basically a non-vtec bottem end and a sohc vtec head.

D16z6 head has a 'P08" or a "P32" stamping on it, Depending on where the engine was built. My D16z6 out of my EJ1 Coupe EX had p32. My Delsol Si had p08 on its head.

On the Transmission next to the diffurentlal on the back there will be a stamping of "b000" on it if its a EX/Si Transmission, i.e. the shorter geared transmission. if it has "a000" it is the taller geared transmission, I.E. DX/LX, or even worse(unless you want epic gas mileage) the CX/VX Transmission

i couldn't find any p08 or p32 all i found was a P2J-7

what is the code on the Distributor if its a Y8 head then youll be using a D15 dizzy and if its a z6 or z1 head then youll be useing the z6 dizzy codes are as follows

vtec obd1 dizzy (z6 z1 etc...)-td42u

non vtec d15b7 dizzy- td41u

this code appears on the runner when installed the one i do beleive (I looked at the one in my stock of coarse didnt install it but i do think its either going to be the top mount or the one closest to the front of the car...

if it has a vtec solinoid this is my way of telling between teh two heads easiest way or if the numbers are worn down as some get from oil and corrosion then try and find a d15 dizzy (easier to find than that of a Z6) and see if it will bolt right up....

The P2J-7 head code corresponds to a 97 or 99 d16y8 auto transmission head.

So you have a d15b7/y8 mini-me. That is going to be a fun motor. 10.6:1 CR FTW ... especially if you ended up with an EX transmission too.

What are your goals for the setup, and what will it be used for? That might help us give suggestions. The Si/EX tranny is probably the best no matter what you are trying to do (unless you are going for epic MPG) it doesn't hurt your fuel efficiency that much. However if this is going to be a daily driven car I would reccommned finding the EX flavor of tranny instead of the Si ... the EX has a longer 5th gear which will make highway cruising easier on the engine.

Also not all log manifolds are A/C compatible (as I found out) make sure you find one that is.

Another side note, as I have been working with a d15b7 bottom end. Your LS rods will NOT fit. The d15b7 rod journals are smaller than the d16 rod journals. The BE bore on your rods is too big for the crank. Currently there are only a couple of options for rods for the d15b7 ... crower makes a stock length rod (but they are heavy and expensive). There is also a hungarian company that makes custom length rods for use with vitara pistons for the d15b7 (however the site is in hungarian and I'm not sure if you want to try sending money for parts overseas). There is another company (fj-distributors) that will be releasing d15b7 rods soon (custom length for vitara pistons), they should be ready some time next year.

FJ-Distributors has a d15b7 rod in the works, but it is not done yet. They should be available sometime next year (I've been following these for some time now). The d16 rods will not work, for the same reason that the LS rods won't work the BE bore on them is the wrong size. The d16 crank and the d15b7 crank have different size rod journals. The JDM D15B also has the larger rod journals so the JDM D15B rods from FJ-Distributors won't work either. Your only option at this point really is the rods from crower which are stock length (no vitaras for you) and cost $700 a set.
