My car has black residue on the back bumper, It has no power going up hills, and when I drive at a constant speed around 75mph or above for at least 2 min the check engine light comes on. When I turn the car off and drive the next day its always gone.
I am thinking that the car needs a tune up. So what are the necessary parts to do a proper tune up and what parts do people recommend?

That would be your O2 sensor..
but a proper tune up. OIl change. Spark plug wires. Spark plugs, Distributor cap & rotor, Air filter. Oil filter. and PCV valve if you have one.
should be better then. but the blackness on the bumper will more then likely not go away. that's carbon from the exhaust. and usually means there is alot of carbon build up in your engine. that's when Sea Foam scomes into play. =].. not actual seam foam from the sea. Sea Foam is a brand of a cleaning productct you can get at any autopart store..

or he is running rich
but the fuel filter as well
so thats
air filter
oil change wit filter
fuel filter
dizzy cap and rotor
spark plugs
spark plug wires
pcv
then u got your major tune up which would be
water pump
head gasket
timing belt

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, retrieve the code. All it takes is a paper clip. Maybe you have a bad coolant or ait sensor.

It goes off once i shut the car so i would have to ride around 75-80mph so it comes on and immediately goto a shop to get the check engine light diagnosed. I will check on the o2 sensor tomorrow

Even if it's gone off the next day, the ecu will still cycle the previous error code within 6 times (apparently) of engaging the ignition/starting the engine.
