#226514 Hey guys.... i have a 92 civic vx with a d16z6.... and im having problem with my distributor!!! The distributor has a o-ring and a shaft seal. The shaft seal is leaking and letting oil inside the cap which is not letting it spark and fire right. And they dont sell the shaft seal even at the dealer. I thought i fixed it but it still leaks so i looked online and they showed me there is the o-ring and also the shaft seal. They r different things..... can anyone explain a way to fix it, or do they know where i can get that seal without buying a new dizzy... thanks!! oh i just got new NGK wires and plugs about a month ago, so should i just get a new dizzy and what brand... i thought about msd, but msd dizzy will only fit msd plugs rite?? so any help would be nice!!

#226528 If you have to buy another Dizzy, only get OEM. a stock distributor has been used in motors pushing over 400 HP, they are great parts. I'd look around for a used one. just curious, do you have a picture of the shaft seal?

I'm guessing it's what goes between the dizzy housing and the shaft.

edit: this might be it:

#227435 In my opinion, whenever that seal goes bad it means the distributor is bad. If you change the seal it will only start leaking again in a short time.

I could be wrong though.

makes sense... if that seal is wearing out it is probably due to excessive play from worn out bearings. So replacing the seal would not be fixing the cause of the problem.

#227626 In my experience, you're better off paying $40 for a used distributor at the junkyard.
