#229117 i have the 1.5L VTEC-e motor,
is this motor worth building, to go onboost? and will it made decent power?

#229428 You can boost the d15z1, I wouldn't go over 200hp on stock block.

The Vtec-E will probally work real good with a Boosted setup as vtec-e will help with low end torque and then boost will take care of the top end.

The VTEC-E heads are the only d or b series head to have Roller Rocker Cams, which is pretty cool. They are low compression from the factory. Having a Boosted d15z1 would be a cool setup. When the bottom end eventually pops swap it out for another d15 bottom end like a d15b7. Parts will be cheap, it will be decently quick. However you wont be problem free.

If you want n/a power go any B Series besides the B16, and use a B18c(gsr) Transmission or a b16 transmission. Your car will be quick. On the down side parts will be more expensive, however you will be quicker then a Boosted d15z1.

I would be tempted to do a Boosted D15z1, However I also have Tons of extra D Series parts including mutiple bottom ends, another car for when its brakes down and am confident that I can pull a engine, swap blocks and put a new one back in in less then 10 hours. If you dont have all the Tools, or extra parts(or money for extra parts), or anouther car to drive when it eventually brakes down(oil leaks, blown seals, charge lines come off, turbo goes out, etc) then it wouldn't be a good idea.

#229431 hey thanks chrono I have a 94 vx with the d15z1 also and was thinking about doing a boosted setup on it. I read about some guy that did it and still had mid 40's for mpg. I am kinda intimidated on doing it because I haven't ever worked with a turbo before but I guess you have to start somewhere.

dude you answeared my question, and gave me a lil extra... you are the man!!!
you said everythingi wanted to hear...although i have one more question for you...
Will it make 250-300 on a good tune and bigger turbo with some bottom end work? (nothing too crazzy but enough to make that power... im guessing around 20 psi?

#229713 You wouldn't start with that motor if you wanted to make that kind of power.

If you put a turbo on it with some tricky engine management, you'll get a nice little increase in power. But that motor will never make big power due to the severe restrictions built into the head.

Here is an example. The throttle body on that motor is insanely small.

#229834 you cnt get a bigger throttle body? and i know its small, i see it all the time :chance:

#229838 The intake mani and head are a restriction as well. If I remember right, the rods are tiny compared to a regular d-series rod.

how much power areu making on ur turbo d16?
and what have u done to the motor?
if you dnt mind me asking...

i think im just gonna drive the vtec-e motor until it dies (cuz it does get like 45 to 55 miles per gallon.), and do a b16a swap to it when shit hits the fan, and then eventually go turbo...

The intake pipe is small, the throttle body is small, the intake manifold port is small, the intake runners are small, the intake ports are small, the valves are small, the exhaust ports are small.

You could get a new head, but then the pistons are flat. So at that point you're looking at getting a new engine.

so i have to get a new engine.... :woot:
i have in mind a b16a and pissibly turbo that... another ? can i have a b16 and a gsr tranny?
