Hey guys I need ur guys honest opinion me and a friend of mine are arguing about the A6 cam on a b7 head. So were both arguing about how he needs a adjustment. Cam gear or a y7 /y8 cam gear. He insist that he doesn't need to, he also said that on another forum even said that u don't need to and that you can use the b7 cam gear but it will be 1/2 tooth off...I don't if that's 1/2 tooth off retarted or advance....so anybody with good knowledge about this swap please chip in...

y8 cam gear wil be the correct timing if you wanna have fun with advancing or retarting the timing get an adjustable cam gear

with the a6 cam gear, it will be a half tooth 'retarted'.
fortunatley, y7/y8/y5 cam gears are a half tooth advanced.
thus restoring balance in the world, the yin and the yang, etc

So I was right about using the y7/y8 cam gear..but will it be a problem if he uses the a6 cam gear? My friend still thinks that it would run fine, and he insist if its 1/2 tooth retarded he would have low end power...

how would you set the ignition timing? (this is a prerequisite for not running like ass)
cam timing is critical, ignition timing can be played with.

yes he does

his car will run like shit
like d-mon said, cam timing and ignition time are diff
and are very important when it comes to how well a motor will run

let ur friend to use the y7/y8 cam gear or a adjustable one
if he says he isnt, then you can laugh in his face when his car runs like crap 8)

well i finally convince him to run a y8 cam gear. a friend of my co-worker had a y8 cam gear in his b7/ a6 head...and it ran hella good
