question about check engine light

i dont know if this is the right thread to post this....

but i have a d16z6 in my ef sedan. and it's always had a check engine
light on. it has a pm6 ecu. i was just wondering what i would have to do to
see how i would check, the check engine light codes. how would i do so?

another thing is when i start the car it idles really rough sometimes as low as 1k and it just dies out. i have heard to clean the fitv which im going to do tomorrow. anything else?

You have a non-VTEC ECU and a VTEC engine.

Unless isn't been converted to run a VTEC motor you may need a new ECU. Did you have the VTEC wired up?

There may be things going on in your motor that your ECU doesn't understand.

Also ... I believe you have an OBD0 ECU trying to run an OBD1 engine. Which means there are wires going to the wrong place ... unless you have a conversion harness.

i was told it was chipped and tune. how would i find out? and if its now what ecu should i be getting?

You should be running a p28 ECU.
