#244107 i need ideas bad. my engine is the d15b8 and i bought all the required d16y8 parts to do the swap and ive run into a problem. i can not for the life of me get the bolt off my crank shaft pulley. ive tried a breaker bar with a cheater bar, when that didnt work i went out and bought a 12 gallon 1HP compressor with an impact gun and that didnt work then i borrowed my buddy's 30 gallon 5HP air compressor and that didnt work either.

Ive gotten so frusturated :x with it that i slid my timing belt off my cam gear and took off the old head and put the d16y8 head on( not the brightest idea ive been told but whats done is done). but now im back to square one since i cant get that bolt off to put the right timing belt on. is there any one that encounted this type of problem and overcame it? im open to any ideas, i need to get my EG running again.

#244185 unfortunatly my pulley doesnt have the hexagon so the that tool wont work for me. that wouldve made life so much easier. is there anything else i can do, a buddy of mine suggested breaking the head of the bolt off and drilling and tapping the bolt but that sounds like a horrible idea to me.
do you have any other suggestions that might work?

You are right that is an insanely stupid idea. But I think that Teal_dx's got a good idea there. Soak the fucker in PB blaster then go back at it with the air tools. Let it soak for a while, maybe even reapply a few times. PB blaster > stuck bolts (unless they're all nasty and rusted through ... then they break).

I've also heard that a good way to help loosen the bolt is (after soaking it in PB blaster) heat it with a torch and then hit it with a hammer.

#244234 or you could just loosen you timing belt tensioner if getting the timing belt back on is the issue
theres a little plastic gromet above the crank pulley on the timing belt cover pop tha off with a flathead and then use a 14mm shallow socket to loosen the tensioner pulley then pull on the timing belt to gain more belt and slip it over your cam gear
make sure everything is top dead center and bam your good to go! :thumb:
hope that helps you

#244732 well i got the bolt off finally. thank you everyone for the ideas. heres how i did it in case anyone else runs into this problem.
i went to home depot and bought a 36in matal slat( i didnt need it that big but i didnt find anything smaller) that is about 1/4 in thick so it wouldnt bend. i drilled holes in it that woul match up against my crank pulley holes then attached it to it through the holes with a couple of bolts and nuts, and let it rest against the ground, stoping the crank pulley from moving.
then i used an impact socket with a 5in extension, a 10in extension, a breaker bar, a cheater bar, and a jack to support the extensions. then apply a little bit of muscle with all that leverage and BAM!!!! that bolt came off.

then i did a lil dance pointed at my air compressor and impact gun and had a hearty laugh. lol

#244863 There is a special tool for the old style crank pulleys with the holes.

A breaker bar is stronger than an impact.
