D series oil pans

Can I use a d16y7 non vtec oil pan on a d16z6 vtec motor ??

Yes only as long as there both steel they will work y8 is aluminum there different but can be made to work

d16y5 is also aluminum. The only thing I'd double check is dipstick clearance since OBD1 motors have them on the front center and OBD2 motors have them on the corner.

how can i tell if its steel or aluminum ??? my oil pan is black if that helps lol a friend was telling me you can tell by the color idk if thats true

The steel ones are painted black. The aluminum ones are the same color as a valve cover.

just found a d16z6 pan for really cheap just going to mess with that one but thanks for your response people !!!!

it is worth mentioning in this thread that not all the holes will line up when bolting an obd2 oil pan to an obd1 block, and vice versa.
honda moved them a few of them around from obd1 to obd2.
this can be fixed with a drill and the gasket for the block as a template.

magnet will attach to the metal one and not to the aluminum
