D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps
By eastcoasthatchy
#269578 my d15b8 engine in my cx just blew and i have access to someone who made a minime out of a d16y7 and d16z6 that im looking to swap into the cx. the thing is they will only give me the block and head (still assembled) but nothing else. what in my civic is compatible and what would i need to buy? what ecu would i need? are there any swap guides that would lead me in the right direction? ect.

i know i can keep my motor mounts, axles, and i think i have to do a OBD2 to OBD1 conversion.

#269579 Here's a rundown:
ECU = P28
intake manifold = d15b8 will bolt up but d16z6 IM will breathe much better.
Get the z6 throttle body as well.
Your tranny will work but it has very long gears (slow acceleration) for fuel economy.
No need to mess with OBD2... stay OBD1 since your car & P28 ecu are OBD1.
There's some OBD2 sensors on the motor (knock sensor, ckf) just ignore them because your harness wont have those plugs and an obd1 ecu won't need those sensors.
you'll need to wire up vtec - look in the DIY thread list, there's a mini-me DIY with details on this.
Distributor = use a dizzy from a D16z6
the d15b8 has a tiny throttle body, restrictive intake manifold and small intake tube.
Replacing these parts will get your mini-me the air it wants. :thumb:
