ok.. as some of you know, my D15B8 took a dump on me recently. i bought a D15B7 for $100 and plan to swap it. i'm a total noob/virgin/homo at motor swaps..

1) can anyone give me helpful advice about tips/tricks/info that will speed this swap along?

2) i have a decent set of tools, but are there any specialty tools i may need?

3) i'm pulling the motor and trans together

4) my motor harness is cut, not exactly sure which clip.. but can i reuse my B8 harness on my B7, atleast for a week or two?

later i do plan on repulling the B7 to do a nasty mini-me. but one step at a time.

1.Take your time and dont rush it. Swaps arent that hard, they seem daunting the first time, but once you get into it you will realize it is cake. In your case it is a simple remove and replace, easiest swap to do period.

2. No special tools needed.

3. good, saves time! :thumb:

4. Yes you can reuse the b8 harness, you will need to add wires for the o2 sensor though. B8 is 1 wire, B7 is 4 wire.

Here is an awesome write up on doing it in the engine bay instead of having to run new wires all the way to the ecu!!:

Seriously it isn't hard at all after you get the hang of it, just don't get frustrated half way through and say fuck it. Are you going to be doing this by yourself or are you going to have help?

Alrite so you want to do a motor swap well its fairly easy for the most part......

I may answer your questions in which ever way i see fit but i will try to answer them all to the best that i can....

2) specialty tools i dont know if they are special but this also coincides with 1) a cherry picker engine hoist ect works wonders as well as a load leveler, a pickle fork and a 32mm axle nut a breaker bar and if your really lucky to have them a nice set of air tools works wonders.....

3) good idea lol its alot easier that way tho id suggest unbolting the clutch inspection plate while the engine is in its somewhat of a bitch to get to and you need to take that off in order to remove the trans from the engine...

4 yes you can use your harness tho the b8 runs a 1 wire 02 so id suggest keeping your b8 ecu for now but if you think its not running right pop in the b7 since its only a 02 you can either dpin and wire up the 02 to the harness(i made a list of things in i think the wiring section to help with that to make your b8 harness a b7

1) besides what i said up above if you have a manual trans which im assuming id say pop the upper ball joint and the outer tie rod and maybe just for a little extra space the lower shock tower bolt and nut....and just pop your axle from the trans and pull back on the arm and to reinstall slide one end into your trans make sure its up to the pin and give it a good push and pops right back in (this works for me but if you want remove the whole axle im just lazy

another helpful hint keep your bolts and anything you take off in one place also try and assemble as much of the motor out of the car as you can for me another lazy but easy way of doing things.

only other word of advice just be mythotical take pictures if you wish or do what ever it takes to allow you to remember hwo everything goes i know in my first swap it was a little fuzzy remembering all the connections etc. but its fairly easy to do thats why i love honda they make things easy to understand in my book goodluck and enjoy! :thumb:

p.s. my advice dont try and do it in less then a day take your time a weekend should suffice if you have the other engine ready to go .....

put your bolts and other parts in zip lock bags... mark them and zip tie with which ever part youve taken off... it is possible to do it in a day.. especially if you have help and common knowledge of the engine. especially if you got to go to work or a meet or something.... take your time though.

And that isn't even hard. Use the right size punch for it and you will have no problems.

Yeah I hate that bitch pin, even getting it back in is a bitch at times. Especially when the shift linkage is still attached and you have only a few inches to hammer it back in.
