thanks to teal-dx....

on my way to the machine shop today to pick up my engine for my ek coupe....

its a d16y8 block and a d16z head...

the block is bored .020 over stock
the crank was polished
the head was rebuilt basically, needed 3 heli coils... lol

i start off using a whole can of brake clean on every engine, the cylinders to the bearing journals, make sure you wipe them down and keep the block clean, if you dont and you install your bearings, due to metal shavings you cant see with the naked eye, you will cause pre mature bearing ware....


make sure the back of the bearing, (the part that sits in the block) is dry and clean of no lube, oil, grease, or metal shavings from the machine shop.

press them into place....

(IM SKIPPING THE PLASTIGAUGE PART IN THIS WRITE UP BECAUSE IT IS ON OUR FORUM WRITTEN UP BY TEAL-DX, THERE IS A LINK ON THE PREVIOUS POST)

- Sun Oct 23, 2011 6:07 pm #278776 I had my machinest who i have personally used for the past 8 years machine my block, and he plastiguages at the shop and sends me the correct bearing size, i then re-check his findings with my own plastigauge,

my rods are .030"
my mains are .010"
my cylinders are .020" over stock

- Sun Oct 23, 2011 6:18 pm #278779 on the mains, the girdle and the block have special oil ports for the bearings, some people are stupid and put them in backwards, or buy an ebay brand bearing that is backwards.... dont go cheap. i used acl bearings.

- Sun Oct 23, 2011 10:07 pm #278792 the ONLY sealant you should ever use on a honda engine, NEVER USE RTV SILICONE, its not good for bearings, hondabond is ment for HONDA, so use it! very simple. and it costs the same amount :thumb: :thumb:

- Sun Nov 06, 2011 9:24 pm #280479 thrust washers?? no problems, ive built a bunch of engines, use to work at a machine shop so they werent too difficult, if uou install the bearings then the crank and put a lil lube of the thrust washers its no big deal....
