#80302 Wow, been a while since I've been on here, but now that I finally own my first Honda, being a Civic ofc with the D16Z6 engine in it.

Little history of my car - orginally it was a 1.5LSI AUTOMATIC but the guy before me did an engine conversion and replaced it with the d16z6.

Anyways, I bought the car for a bargain price off of Ebay, bodywork isn't fantastic but I know a panel beater (my father) who will sort the rust and small dents for me before I get a respray. Anyways, more about that in another topic, this is about my engine! Here's an image of my engine;

After I bought it, I was driving home with it, had travelled a good 70-80miles then BOOM! Pulled onto the hard shoulder, my top hose from the rad to the engine shredded literally in half!

I replaced it, went through the correct procedure when re-filling my rad back up and sorting the cooling system up and my water level continously kept dropping after a few days. In the end I got it sniff tested - and the worst was the problem, my head gasket has gone! Exhaust fumes was leaking into my cooling system.

I spoke to a few mates who own modified JDM motors and they know quite a bit, and one of them said, it's better to do a full top end re-build rather than just buy the head gasket and replace that only. Is it essential? I mean is it absolutely necessary to do that? If so, why?

Can't I just replace the head gasket only and if the head is warped, can't I just get that skimmed?

When you say checked, I assume there's more things to check other than checking to see if it's warped? This is going to be my first time going into an engine. What do I need to check for?

#80326 Basically you want to get the head checked out to see if there are any other problems with it. Warped, cracked, bent valves, bad valve seals, and other various problems that will be easier to fix with the head off.

#80418 Get an intake pipe. It will bring your power band down where it's more usable. Having the filter right on the throttle body like that is worse than the stock intake pipe.

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed as soon as I lifted the bonnet! I've heard AEM are recommended for a good instake pipe?

Just another question regarding replacing the head gasket...I've heard there's a risk of screwing up the valve timings (I think) which i'll have to be careful of.

I've never done it before so I don't wanna screw it up, is there anything that I have to aware of doing or not doing when doing the job?

#80727 Shit when that happenes you shouldn't screw anything up tbh just be carefull and read up, if u don't think you should do it then get someone who knows what there doing to do it. :thumb:
