hey im new to this site and have just bought a civic, all i know is its a 1.5 vtec-e. im pretty sure that the engine is the d125z1. if so what potential does it have, ive heard about swapping heads and manifolds of other hondas but just want to know what will work.
thanks

the z1 is designed to get good fuel economy and not much more. I would save up for a swap, although with fuel costs these days, you should get some good $$$ for your z1 swap if you decided to sell it

i wish i could do a swap but what with living in the uk, being 18 and not having much money its not really possible. im not expecting it to be rapid i just want to be able to out perform most my friends cars (all like 1.2 clio's and corsas haha) i bought it with a s/s cat back exhaust and induction kit which combined will add a few hp, ok like 4 but every little helps right lol. if im not getting it fast in a straight line i may aswell go fast round corners so was wondering if there are some cheap coliovers/springs you know of?

i whould recommend
- dispose the resonater box
- get a K&N droppin filter
- use a 60mm inteke pipe
- 50mm exhaust mid pipe
- 100 cpsi catalyst 50mm in/out
- EG5 D16z6 header
- EG3 D13 gearbox
- ECU Tune
- weight reduction
- light wheels 13'' , 14'' or 15'' not larger (smaller is better)
- Koni / D2 / K-Sport coilovers
- SIR or ITR sway bars F+R
and it'l be realy quick but nou as fast as a D16z6

I like the idea of being quicker in the corners, that will be easy to accomplish with your car
Not sure how cheap you want to go, but look in the suspension forum. There's plenty of advice in there

why do you recommend that header? and is the intake 60mm? i thought it may be smaller but you probably know more then me lol. what difference will the gearbox make?

All those motor mods will actually hurt this motor. It was built and designed to get great gas milege. Not go fast. The ECU will not know what to do with everything those mods do and poop on itself. Best to leave it mostly stock. a K and N filter is a good idea.
Its best to just leave your mods to suspension and brakes. Until you can afford a motor swap.

There was a short thing in Honda Tunning about the best thing to do with them, they said to lock the head so that all 16 valves are open all the time and get a big cam, It would basically be like a B7 but with roller rockers and a big ole cam

i already have an open air filter but im looking to upgrade to aluminium pipe and relocate the filter for colder air, ive seen a few manifolds on ebay which i like and im thinking of buying. i will probably just do an engine conversion then, which engine would you recommend for an easy, cheap swap?

D15b Sohc vtec or a D16z6 sohc vtec. Both would be rather simple swaps. and not make your insurance or what not that high.

I agree with greasedmonkey, DON'T modify that motor. You'll only mess up the calibration.
Are B18B's hard to come by where you're from?
D16Z6 would be cheapest/easiest, but it's not going to make it a whole lot faster. That engine and accompanying ECU respond well to modification though.

I think I wouldn't mind living in a place with no ricers.

I wouldnt mind that at all. But I do want parts around. This guy makes it sound like NOTHING can be had.
