so after taking the head off and changin the head gasket and see that nothin is wrong, i go to set the timing and put the belt on. theni tell my friend to turn it on ....... nothing so im mad all over again, so i double check to make sure i got it set right and i notice that the skunk2 cam gear is off by ALOT

^that wht its was at the night b4 it stopped runnin

^ thats where it was at when i checked the timing again all the screws moved over to the right where the arrow is pointing ( i should of taken a better pic but i was just mad )

i called honda they said check the valves to see if there bent but when i had the head off and was setting it to TDC i aint see nuttin wrong neither did my friend ..... could it just be its way off timing ? im also pickin up some wires and plugs up on the way home thinkin maybe its just not gettin enough spark if ne one has any more ideas it would help thanks

well it could be way off timing but id still check for compression since being that far out you may have bent the valve a bit idk but its possible anyhow that sucks....hopefully you didnt bend anything and you are good to go i mean its so hard to tell sometimes if the valve is bent until its outa the head and next to one that isnt...but most likely you where just outa time big time lol.....but yea just on the safe side if you already have it put altogether id check for compression and you should be good if it all checks out.......

Also when you had your head off was there any visible markings on the piston tops like some of the metal showing or the carbon scuffed or something like that if so you may have bent something but still check for compression

do a compression test to be sure they aren't bent :thumb:

you need to tighten the bolts in you adjustable cam gear so they don't slip.
unless you milled the head or have a performance cam, you don't need an adj. cam gear. probably easier to set the cam timing with the stock gear.

i tought the bolts were tight but when i told the boy i bough it from that its slipped he said that happend to him 2 ... so i guess he aint tighten them back up

it started :woot: but bad bad things happend to the cam gear and cam and they will defintly need to be replaced asap the cam gear spun on the cam shaft which threw it way way off timing but i managed to get it back on and back at TDC and it started right up but i dont want to leave it on for long incase it happens again i might just put the stock cam back on but i already have another head and cam so i just need to get all the internals for it ill probly end up building that head

Glad u got it started but I just wondering if there was a Woodruff Key in the slot of the cam gear cause I dont see anything?? :? unless there wasn't one then there your problem for the cam gear being off timing and slipping...

I thnk I see the woodruff key in this pic:

but maybe the tolerances were off which caused it to slip :?

it looks like the woodruff key was replaced by something too small or too soft to do the job.
i would use the stock cam gear for now.

im quite positive that if you haven't done any work on the head or block (milling and decking), these cam gears are machined so that if they fail you won't wreck your head. you can see in your pic that its all the way out (20 degrees, right?) .. and you came away with no bent gear..

yeahh.. pretty sure they are made so that if/when they fail you aren't stuck replacing your head.

looks good though, :woot: .

yea that makes alot of sence ill probly just use that extra cam as a paper weight at work lol yea it looks good for now i cant wait till i start the body work i think i might spend my tax money on a set a cf fenders if i dont decide to use that money for the rest of my turbo stuff
