#119732 ok..i just bought a 93 dx with a d16z6 swapped into it,
when i got the car it was running on an auto p06,vtec wasnt wired up but the car ran good, when accelerating the car runs real nice until about 5000 rpms, now when it hits 5k it starts sputtering real bad.
i got a p28 and wired up vtec. my solenoid has 1 green wire,my oil pressure switch has 1 green wire and 1 red wire.i ran the red wire from the oil pressure sensor to pin D6.i grounded the green wire from the oil pressure sensor.and i ran the green wire from the solenoid to pin A4.

car still sputters and feels like vtec is not kicking in.
anybody have any helpful hints to get this car running perfect???
it is not throwing a CEL,and the car runs really well up until its time for vtec..the ecu is virgin and has not been chipped or anything

#119739 idk ive seen people do it but check your cluster and make sure the check engine light bulb isnt removed or blown just to make sure....ummm check your distributor almost sounds like thats the problem if it sputters even with a p28 and the p06 i had that as well in my hatch when i bought it with a z6 swap but it had the wrong harness on it.....it had a cx harness. but i thin with the dx you should be fine....but just make sure your o2 sensor is a 4wire....

ummm besides that try unhooking vtec witht eh p28 installed and see if it throws a check engine light this should allow you to figure out a couple of things if your check engine light is even working.....because it should throw a code for this.....so yea thats just a couple things i thought of

when checking your distributor....see what model number it is....and stuff like that

#119752 CEL does work.it comes on when i turn the key on,then goes off..
i will try unplugging the solenod to see if that triggers anything..
im using th dx harness, the o2 is 4 wire.if the dizzy isnt from a vtec motor will that cause it to run like this???
im just frustrated cuz ive been into hondas for almost 8 years and have been able to diagnose alot of my own problems..
maybe its just because im new to obd1? lol
ive been into obd0 for the longest time..
well im gonna keep trying some stuff.any more ideas feel free to chime in

#119793 Yea i was into obd0 for a little bit as well but i think obd1 was a good choice to go ...I mean yea there are quite a few differences but yea i think its a little easier to work on and stuff....anyhow. I am almost certain that the distributor if it was from a 1.5 like the o.e. D15b7 motor it would not allow vtec to work properly for i dont think it would be getting enough voltage or anything like that to power the 1.6 i could be wrong though....

#119859 well i soaked my injectors in parts cleaner and put them back in..car doesnt sputter as bad..
and it starts a little later..so im going to try putting fresh 93 in,changing the oil and seeing how it goes..
if not ill do a dizzy swap( i dont know wht dizzy i have)

the correct distributor is td-42u.
a td-41u is the dx (non-vtec) distributor, and will not allow you to set your ignition timing at 16*btdc because of the mounting bolt pattern.

#120551 isnt soaking the injectors in part cleaners bad? i heard it damages something inside

#121178 well i have the right dizzy.i installed a vtec light.and the car still sputters when i hit vtec..
everytime i take the car for a ride it will run soo good until 5200 rpm..
at 5200 my vtec light turns on and it automatically starts sputtering
i dont understand..
im going to change the oil and put fresh 93 in it..

Man this is totally silly. All the distributors have the same "power". They all use the same coil and ignitor. You can swap D15 internals into a B18 distributor.

VTEC would still work w/ the wrong distributor. It just causes your timing to be really retarded.

I wonder if you have the non-VTEC injectors. The non-VTEC injectors are 190CC, while the VTEC injectors are 240CC and the same as the OBD1 B series.

As for OBD1 being harder, that makes no sense. How would having more on board diagnostics capability make the car harder to diagnose? It can tell you exactly what's wrong! Not only that but the latter generation Hondas / Acuras are progressively easier to work on. I purposely got an OBD2 Integra.
