#143362 ok so i just picked up a b18 bottom end with a b16 head that has the gsr cams and a SI trans and axles im gunna put it in my coupe. the engine is an OBD2 but the car is OBD1 the engine came with the harness all the way to the ECU. what do i need to do to make it work ??

#143369 If you have the engine with OBD2 and the ECU from that same engine with the proper harness I would imagine you could just drop it in and all the systems would run OBD2, but if you have your old OBD1 ECU and the rest is OBD2 I would say all you need is the correct ECU for OBD2.

Also you may need more then one O2 sensor for the correct air/fuel ratio, I believe OBD2 has 2-3 O2 sensors and if you have an OBD2 engine+ecu w/o the proper emissions set up if could cause your check engine light to come on and make your car either run too rich or too lean.

:? I can't really think of anything else, hope this helps! Good luck! :thumb:

#143397 easiest way to put it in is to convert it all to OBD1

put in a OBD1 Alternator, Distributor, Fuel Injectors and Speed Sensor.
It will then plug into your OBD1 Wiring harness in your EG. If you dont have VTEC Wiring(Basically anything then a EX or Si) you will have to run wires for that as well as your Knock Sensor to your ECU.

You will need to get the car tuned as its a frankinstine engine. You can run it on the p72 GSR ECU. However I wouldn't plan on running it on that for long. If you get a p28 or p72 you can have them chipped/tuned for your Frankenstein/hybrid engine.

#143415 OGJaper, yea it comes with both O2 sensors and all the wires to the ecu and the ECU its self.

chrono404 why do i have to switch all that stuff if i have everything from the engine to the ecu as well as the ecu?

#143424 Convert it back to an OBD1 motor, like above said, and you should be just fine there. You will have to run some wires for knock sensor and maybe vtec.

I wouldnt really call this a hybrid/frank motor. They lowered the compression by putting the B16a one the gsr short block. You are now below 10:1 CR.

P28/P72 with crome or hondata will be your best bet for tuning.

its easier and cheaper to convert the engine to obd1 then to convert your car to obd2.

Rywire makes Custom harnesses, However its more expensive then just converting your engine to obd1.

#143467 grabbing obd1 parts for the motor is easier and cheaper than changing your whole car harness. OBD1 is better anyways.

#143731 called the guy at rywire today and he said to just buy the b16a sub-harness with the dizzy adapter and use a 0bd1 ecu and fuel injectors and ill be fine, it will only cost me $100 :thumb:
