#78422 Me and my brother are going to be starting a build as soon as we move to Indianapolis in June. I know it is a little ways away but we are just thinking of what to do, and I am sitting here curious with a few questions.

1- What are the size of the B16B rod bolts? I have searched and can't seem to find them. I seen that some B's have 8mm and some have 9mm, but I'm not 100%.
2- When we buy internal parts such as cams, valves, valve springs, retainers, etc., do we have to buy specifically for the B16B or can we just buy for a B16?
3- Here is a list that we came up with in about 40 minutes last night. We are going N/A because it is going to be a drag car and also a daily driven street car. Can anyone help us out on what would be the better parts to buy.

JDM B16B CTR
Cometic Head Gasket
AEM Adjustable Cam Gears
Buddy Club Spec V Extreme Camshafts
Greddy 4-2-1 Header
Spoon Sport Thermostat
RC Engineering Saturated Fuel Injector 270cc
Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump
AEM High Volume Fuel Filter
Benen B-series Fuel Rail
TWM Individual Throttle Bodies
ARC Intake Chamber
ARC Super Induction Box
HKS Hi Power Cat Back
Arias 11.1:1 Pistons
Buddy Club Racing Spec Stainless Steel Valves
Buddy Club Racing Spec Dual Valve Springs
Buddy Club Racing Spec Titanium Retainers
JUN Valve Guides
Valve Seals
Head Ported/Polished
Three Angle Valve Job
ARP Headstuds
ARP Mainstuds
ARP Rod Bolts
ACL Race Bearings

Any and all help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Josh.

#78480 you guys have to have something for us... we will start ordering parts soon. This is going to be guaranteed the craziest and nicest civic build anyone has ever seen. Although it will be a long one. We just have to finish up our list for engine internals.

Cometic Head Gasket Thinner or Thicker than stock? I would say Spoon or Mugen Gasket
AEM Adjustable Cam Gears Get the 6 bolt Skunk2
Buddy Club Spec V Extreme Camshafts
Greddy 4-2-1 Header Get a real header, RMF, SMPS, Rage, Hy-Tech
Spoon Sport Thermostat get the fan switch too
RC Engineering Saturated Fuel Injector 270cc you might want 310cc injectors.
Walbro 255 LPH Fuel Pump
AEM High Volume Fuel Filter AEM = Fail from what I have heard.
Benen B-series Fuel Rail
TWM Individual Throttle Bodies
ARC Intake Chamber
ARC Super Induction Box
HKS Hi Power Cat Back
Arias 11.1:1 Pistons why so low in a all motor build?
Buddy Club Racing Spec Stainless Steel Valves
Buddy Club Racing Spec Dual Valve Springs
Buddy Club Racing Spec Titanium Retainers
JUN Valve Guides
Valve Seals
Head Ported/Polished
Three Angle Valve Job
ARP Headstuds

#78493 sorry guys... i have been going through the list and reworking it a little. we are going thicker than stock HG. And the pistons will stay Arias but we will go with an 11.5:1, we need it to stay fairly streetable... don't want to rebuild it everytime we do a pass at the 1/4.

#78545 if thats the case, make sure you get 11.5 after the thinker gasket. not before.

oh and you can be fully streetable with a 12.5:1 CR too.

#78593 Ok cool man. Thanks for the help. And I'm just curious as to why you recommend getting the pistons after we get the thicker head gasket?

#78664 thicker head gaskets lower compression.
By jdmtuned231
#78995 so a thinner headgasket would be the way to go then??? and what do you think RPM redline would be with a 12.5:1 setup, also horsepower with the listed mods. Remember it will be on a B16B.

#79011 The Rev limit is more related to the Cams, Springs and Retainers. Its about what they can handle, and where the power starts to drop off.

11.5:1 is a good NA Compression, I was just letting you know, that the head gasket thickness does effect the over all outcome of what it will be. If the dome CC of the piston equals 11.5:1 with a stock oem HG then adding a thicker one will lower it and a thinner one will raise it.

Thats just something you might want to look into when building this motor. Get the Compression height and CC of the piston so that you can do the calculations to see what the compession will be with a OEM gasket. Then base your findings off of that as to get a thicker or thinner gasket.

You do have to remember that the B16B has a 10.8:1 Ratio stock, so adding a thinner gasket right off the bat will get you real close to your 11.5:1 goal. Then after the gasket you can add flat valves to raise it up even more and not ever have to take apart the bottom end there by keeping all the reliability that honda put into it.

#79034 You will also want to see what compression you need for those huge cams you are wanting. 11.5 might still be too low.
By jdmtuned231
#79099 ok... now with a little revising we decided on about a 12.5-13:1ish comp. ratio when everything is final. Do you really think that i could go past 11.5 on stock bottom end... would i start throwing rods and smoking bearings?
By jdmtuned231
#79101 and say we stay with the listed mods... with a 12.5:1 setup... what is an estimated final outcome in the HP and redline??? We are really wondering. We are shooting for 300 N/A at the wheels. If we don't hit that then we may need to do a TOUCH of spray.

#79108 300 is stretching out a bit. ive seen built 85x89mm motors that make about 250hp.

I dont think you will have problems with 11.5:1 on a stock bottom end at all. Ill have a all OEM bottom end in my motor with a 12.7:1 compression.

Redline will still be determined by your cam and springs. Since you have the extreme stage 5 cams, Id say you can most likely take it up to 9500 with no problems, but yyou will want to tune it on a dyno to see where the power starts to drop off at.

you will have to keep in mind that you are still using the stock crank which is still the normal B16a stroke.
By jdmtuned231
#79134 ok I want to see about 10k RPM. How do I go about that? Lightweight crank?

#79163 Why do you want to go that high? I doubt you will be makingn power that high. But if thats what you want, you need to check with spoon. They make some shit you will need. They added something to their motors to let them rev to 11k. Grab one of those and you will be set for the bottom end. Just need the top end to make power that high.
