#227774 I am getting gsr rods n pistons n i was wondering if this would fit in my ls/vtec, b18b1 bottom end with b16 head. My friend said it would b alot of trouble n not even bother. The only reason y i wanna put gsr rods on it is because the ls rods r thin n r more likely 2 bend n stuff.

#227776 GSR Rods are longer then LS Rods.

GSR Rods - 137.90mm
LS Rods - 137.00mm

Also LS Rods are just as strong as GSR Rods. The weak link on them is the Rod Bolts, Replace them with ARP Rod bolts and your good to go.

Also make sure you have a 96+ Block or get a new vtec oil pump on your ls/v.

So y r people afraid of ls/vtec? I have it n i love it. I just keep hearing that the ls rods r weak n will bend n stuff at high rpms. N where can i get arp rod bolts? N i have a 98 block.

#227789 people are afraid of ls/vtec and b20/vtec engines for the same reason they are afraid of nitrous.

Becouse someone put together a "lsvtec" incorrectly like just taking a 197k mile ls bottom end from a junkyard, taking a b16 head, and a 'lsvtec kit' bolts them up and uses his stock b16 ecu. Then is surprised when in 3-4 months his engine blows up. he only took it to 9k. >_>

However instead of manning up and saying "yeah i'm a cock, I didn't build my ls/v correctly and it blew, next time I will do it right" he goes off and says "F*cking ls/v's, They always blow on you". instead of looking at the issues they have they make up excuses. Oh ls rods bend easy, pffh the ls bottom end is weak.

I know someone who has gone through more ls/v's then I can count becouse he never builds them correctly, and no matter what you tell him he wont listen, "pffh what ev, I have bulit plently of Ls/v's". On the flip side I know someone who has a Supercharged b20vtec on 11 pounds and has been railing on his setup for the past 3 years, the last 2 of them super charged.

Why did his b20v last him? Because he built it correctly and had a good shop do the dyno tuning to make it reliable. he also doesn't rev to 9k every day, infact he never goes that high. He revs to where he stops making power and then shifts.

This is ugly truth of why people are afraid of lsvtec and b20vtec builds. I have meet people at meets who said they would never touch a stock ls because they are weak and they blow easily which couldn't be further from the truth.

I will b honest i bought the hatch wit the ls/v wats in the block n head im not sure. The car has not givin me any problems except 4 my stupidity on small stuff. The car has no knocking or ticks on the engine. N sorry 4 all the questions i ask, I go through the DIY sections n read everything on this site because i wanna learn how 2 build my Honda the right way. N i'm not a racer that much. I go 2 the drag strip like twice a month n i shift between 6-6500rpms. Is this a safe zone?

#227937 any ls/vtec motor built correctly will be just as reliable as any other honda motor. with patience and care, attention to detail, you will get a motor that can rev just as high, and has the torque and hp people want from a honda motor. i put up a diy for builing one of these motors.

they are awesome motors.

#227945 I agree ls/v is a nasty motor best of both worlds as long as you build it correctly I'm going to go against all "rules" when I have mine finished running 10:1cr on boost but I feel with the proper build and the right tune it'll hold together at 400+ whp if not.. back to the drawing boards lol most of my friends that run ls/v keep them stock and blow them up and its due to either stupidity laziness or not caring. As long as you do research you should be good.

#227951 Wat can i buy 2 make my rods stronger?

#227970 if your motor is running goood right now and has no probs i would leave it and not worry about tearing the bottom end apart to make something stronger that is doing fine.

but to answer your question, i would say some arp connecting rod bolts would ,make your ls rods pretty legit

Sorry 4 the dumb questions. How does the ARP rod bolts make the rods stronger?

#227980 They hold the rod caps to the crank.

The oem b series bolts are the same size as what honda puts in a D series. They are known to have the possibility of streching and taking your rod bearings with them.

ARP Rod bolts are a much stronger bolt that this wont happen with. When I finally got B20/vtec These WILL be in my Bottom end.

Will the bolts allow my rods 2 b more stronger at high rpms?

#227983 yes and no. no the rod itself will be the same. however the rod itself it plenty strong enough as is.

and yes. its will in a sense make the rod stronger as a whole assembly. this is because its going to keep the cap from seperating from the rod, thus preventing you from throwing a rod.

arp bolts are a must for most builds, they are worth it, people think that 50$ for some bolts is a rip off but they are well worth it when they are holding your motor together
