#153515 Ive got a 95 civic cx with a b16 in it, ive been driving it back and forth to school for the past few months. The past week or so the temp has been going up. The first day i added some coolant and then it was fine for another week. Then as i was driving to school one day the temp sky-rocketed, i turned the heat on just to make it to school and the temp went down and everything was fine. I check the coolant again and it was low again with lots of air. A friend said my t-stat is bad but i just replaced it about 5 months ago. The water pump is new and not making any noise or leaking. The top radiator hose gets super hot and the bottom only get a little hot. Is it the thermostat? wheres all the air coming from? thanks guys

#153537 here's some suggestions:

put the thermostat on the stove in a pot of boiling water. if it opens then it is OK.

Check your coolant for an oily film or even worse, brown gunk that looks like cookie dough. Those are signs of a leaking HG

#153563 first thing you should do is bleed the air out of the coolant. Air bubbles or pockets will do just what you have stated. To do this. follow these instructions. Its free and easy.

Take radiator cap off.
Turn car on and let it warm up. Only Idling.
When fan clicks on its warmed up good.
Fill the coolant up as you see it go down. They do make a handy tool for this. Makes it loads easier.

Pretty much a funnel attached to a rad cap with a hole in it. Fill the funnel up with coolant/water mix. As the bubbles come up, coolant goes in. With the funnel method, you can tell when you are done easier, because you can see the bubbles stop coming up.

#153657 so i went out and bought a new rad cap and stat today. i had a greddy high pressure one on it before. i put the stock pressure one on and topped it off and the problem seemed to ahve disappeared. i drove the car to and from school with no issue. i even had the heat off on the way home and it was perfect. weird. :woot:
