i am in a but of a dilemma here
i dont know what setup to start
i planed on going b20 with high comp pistons and crower rods
but i am not sure if i want to loose some rpm and if b16 all motor build would not be as good
so please help me decide what to do haha
if i go b16 all motor i will get some 12:1 pistons

#153772 If you run 12:1 you will have to run either e85 or Race Gas. Atleast according to all the Research I have done on this.

If you are willing to do that are planning on buliding an engine. I would recomend a LS Block(b18a,B18b) and put in USDM b16a2 Pistons into it. That will give you 11.9:1 Compression. It will have more torque then the B16, Have stronger walls thus letting you safely beat on it more then the b20. and be cheaper then the other builds.

If you build up a B16 you will be disapointed. I know my b16 in my EK Isn't enough anymore.

If you want to Daily Drive the car, I would recommend keeping it under 11.4:1 Compression so you can run on Pump gas. e85 Is cheap, However not that available. In Wa, you can only get Race gas at the Track. So it limits where you can drive your car to.

#153788 You can run 12.5:1 and 13:1 on 93 octane pump gas. Just have to find a good tuner. Have the motor built correctly.

My GSR build would have been 12.7:1 on 93 octane. You dont have to go with race gas or e85 at all.

If done correctly a B20/Vtec can still rev as much as a B16a. The motor is just not as easy to put together or as cheap. It takes quite a bit to build a reliable B20 or LS/Vtec motor.

The B16a is a great motor stock, with a few easy mods it can make decent power. Cams, intake manifold, cam gears, HG and header combined with a good tune will get you some good power for some fun driving.

You cant really compare the two motors together though, how you came up with this or that motor with these two is strange. I would say either the B16a or a B18c1 would be your best bet. The hybrid motors are not for first timers or those that havent done enough research to know what it takes and how good it is or isnt.

#153809 thanks guys
i aint a first timer
and i have done research about the b20 vtec
i know it can rev if it is build properly but the problem is that here in Bulgaria it have not been done before so i will work on in in the dark kind of
that is why i will probably go safe and go with the b16

#154112 guyz i have an offer for rods pistons camshafts spring and stuff from b18c spec r 210 bhp
do you recon they are worth it
User avatar
By Greasedmonkey
#154136 It is worth it if you are putting the parts in a B18c. The rods wont work in a B16a, and the pistons will lower the compression in a b16a. Cams springs and retainers are a good upgrade for the b16a though. Will make a bit more power and let you rev it up to 8600 just like the itr.

#155573 anyone :?
By redridinhood
#155927 im no expert at buliding motors but my experience with obx has been less than favorable. It always comes down to: you get what you pay for. I say save your money and buy quality. It may take longer but you'll only have to bulid it once.

#156754 dont get obx cams...

Get well known cams. Do some research before buying. read up on what there is. Find what you want to do with the motor and go from there.

#156936 thanks once again dudes i own you big time

will the b18c r rods work in a b20 block ? and if yes can i rely on them to get the needed rpm
thanks in advance
