Hi guys
I have been offered by a friend to swap our trannys he has a gsr motor with s9b and wants to trade the s9b for mine y21
the thing is that the s9b has a lsd and mine does not
but the y21 has much shorter 1st and 2nd gears
so i am not sure
what will you dude advise me to do

well finding a lsd is going to i think be more expensive than finding gears and rebuilding the trans as you may like it....plus i think the lsd is better in many aspects what you may lose in gear ratio you can make up for in traction i think not sure but if it was up to me id do the trade as long as you know the gears are good and stuff such as that since once one gear starts to crunch its gonna be done

buy an lsd is alot cheaper than gears.

cuz i wasnt planing on putting anlsd its just that i got this offer
and i was told that if i am planing to go b20 i should get the longer gears
so i am not sure at all i dont wona be f8cked up at the end haha

I have heard many people going on about making more hp with longer geared transmission because the engine is in gear longer spooling the turbo longer. And while you will make more horsepower, Is it it any faster? I Personally don't believe it to be the case. Just because you don't make more horsepower doesn't mean the car will be faster.

However if you have an LS Transmission with a stock b20b, you will be slower in a drag race then a fully loaded Ex coupe with a d16z6 w/ i/h/e. If you had a GSR or B16 Transmission the b20 will leave the d16z6 powered coupe in the dust.

IMO The only valid reasons for long geared transmission are Crusing cars(i.e. Grand Touring Cars), Getting Good Fuel Economy, and Dyno Whores who want to brag who makes more HP.

Ive got a b20 with a short B16a tranny. Its the shit! way better than the gsr I had.
