Poor mans Type r

I know its a Gsr block with a b16 head whats the pros and cons of it is. is it better then a gsr i know the b16 head is fully built like type r cams ect and cp pistons

B16 head flows better than the GSR head. Also, if you're getting the complete head with IM, the B16 IM flows a hell of a lot more air than the GSR.

B16 and ITR heads are of the same casting. Difference being the ITR head is hand ported from the factory to flow a good bit more than the B16 head. And the ITR IM is a much better unit than the B16 while we're on the subject.

GSR and B16/ITR heads have different combustion chambers as well. Using a B16 head on a GSR block will net you a lower compression ratio due to the open combustion chambers versus the quench style combusion chambers of the GSR head.

Asking which one is better also kind of depends on what you're doing with the car it's going into. AutoX, drag, road racing, touge, daily, etc. A higher flowing head would always be better for racing, but it would net you less low end torque for daily driving. Hell you're putting a B18 in an EG, what are you worried about torque for?

I say go with a GSR head and have it ported/polished. But I heart high compression engines. If you are going turbo, B16 head would be better because of the flow characteristics and the slightly lower compression ratio.

poor mans itr also includes itr pistons and cams.

and just slapping a b16a head on a GSR will lower the compression.

Both the GSR and B16a head flow great. either can be made to flow tons more.

The flow difference is in the manifolds more than the heads. the gsr unit SUCKS.

I don't remember where, but I read that you can remove the butterflies in the intake manifold to make it flow oodles better than with the factory variable inlet geometry. Probably read it on Team-Integra...

well i got a deal on this motor and it has type r cams, rods, crank, and cp pistons it was built to be a turbo motor i was jw what kind of hp i would be looking at just and idea

depends on what the compression is at. CP pistons doesnt really tell us that though.

i currently have a poor mans r in my dd. its a stk gsr bottom with a pnp b16 head and gsr cams, runs ok for all stock parts. im running the stock gsr ecu, i have ls gears and a stock clutch, itll bark a hard 3rd and not come outa vtec... would def. recomend a poor mans r combo in most any form.

that is the stock ratio for a gsr.

might as well continue going boost. compression is basically stock, so u wont see much power out of it cause the cams are for a higher compression motor.

yes u will see slight power increases over a stock gsr, but it wont be the power u could get out of it if it was a high comp. build.

put a 2 layer gasket on it and some Stage1 cams from skunk2 or so and you will be just fine all motor. You can get some good numbers out of the stock compression.

ive been told stock gsr cams are great boost cams because of the duration and valve overlap... others say to use the gsr intake and itr exaust cams for boost
