so i was driving to work this afternoon and a ef 4door civic wanted to race me... the light turned green and i launched a bit slugish for some reason witch caused me to loose the race... :x i didnt feel the vtec pop when it hit 5500 rpm... the next thing i know im redlining at 6000rpm witch isnt correct for a ek si civic ... when i got to work i checked the vtec solinoid plug under the solinoid and the wire that conects to the ecu i guess; is broken or cut... should i take it to honda and get a new one or should i try to connect it wit a splice or something??????

How about a picture of what you're working with?

You won't hurt the engine without VTEC. The ECU will simply run it in regular economy mode (out of VTEC). As far as going above the crossover point, I don't know if the ECU will adjust the mixture as if it were running in VTEC or not. What engine do you have? B16?

My opinion: Don't take the engine above 5500rpm.

wouldnt recomend running your lowspeeds past the cross over point... the low lift wasnt made to handle the valve spring tension at higher rpms... id just splice an reconnet the connection... do it neat and do it right youll be fine

That's the car telling you not to be a worthless street racer.

A couple years ago there was a high school kid that hit a neighbors tree with his Camaro and died. And then on that same street I witnessed a Civic lose control and crash into the corner of my neighbors garage, then back up and drive away. Bastard. And then shortly after that a stupid ricer hit a minivan and killed a mother taking her kids to daycare. But he lived.

I wish you stupid street racers only killed yourselves but even then I'd have to feel bad for your family. They still leave memorials for that kid on the tree he crashed into. Why don't you send me your portrait and I can put it there?

Just cut the connector off of the other side, and either solder the two wire ends together or crimp them together with a butt splice. It's really really really easy. I wired in a pair of Euro Spec headlights on my brother's Volvo this afternoon. Took an hour to run the wiring, relay, and fog light switch.
